In their first collaboration, Miyake Design Studio and ASICS introduce HYPER TAPING™. Set for the Spring/Summer 2026 season, the new footwear concept launches at ASICS, Issey Miyake and selected retailers globally. The project signals the Japanese powerhouses’ shared vision of creating a functional design grounded in technical precision and refined craftmanship.
Drawing from decades of combined expertise and shared values, The Miyake Design Studio (MDS) team partnered with ASCIS to study the human foot in motion. This research led to the development of a design that reimagines the future of everyday footwear.
Grounded in its philosophy, “A Sound Mind in a Sound Body”, ASICS has built a standout reputation for innovation and functionality. The ASCIS Institute of Sport Science supports this work through continuous research into human anatomy, body movement and footwear compatibility.
At the core of HYPER TAPING™ is a stretch-band system that transforms ASICS’ signature stripes into thick elastic bands which seamlessly wrap around the upper for a ‘taped’ effect. The result enhances stability and provides a secure, adaptive fit.
HYPER TAPING™ is a shoe designed to support extended hours of natural movement. The form draws structural inspiration from a gecko’s foot, prioritising grip and stability. Cushioned tongue wings and adjusted ankle contact maintain a comfortable, natural fit. Simultaneously, the body remains balanced thanks to widened outsoles and responsive FLYTEFOAM PROPEL™ insoles.
For a refined yet resilient silhouette, HYPER TAPING™ combines breathable, lightweight mesh and durable leather. HYPER TAPING™ arrives in three colour ways: Black/Black, Grey/Grey and Green/Blue. Each variation allows seamless integration into the everyday wardrobe and transitions across all occasions.
The HYPER TAPING™ sneakers will be available on 22 January on asics.com
