At Berlin Fashion Week Designer Laura Gerte presented her latest collection ‘Deviant Defiant’. Delivering a striking meditation on willfulness and the enduring allure of the female villain. Laura Gerte commands radical silhouettes, merging raw femininity with a sharp future-punk edge. Her garments move with intention, twisting, stretching, and vibrating with tension that feels playful yet defiant, provocative yet soft, fragile and resilient.
The collection rejects social containment and reframes the female villain as a figure of agency and power. These ‘characters’ expose cultural anxieties around women’s autonomy, maturity, knowledge, sexuality, and authority. As women step beyond control, dominant narratives mark them as “evil,” revealing the fear embedded in their portrayal.
Working with reclaimed garments, deadstock, and recycled textiles, Laura Gerte re-engineers materials into hybrid constructions that retain traces of their past lives. Each piece emerges as a transformative rewrite, turning discarded histories into garments charged with new meaning.
For this collection Laura Gerte collaborated with Dr. Martens. The brand is known for their iconic styles of footwear, that represent craftsmanship, material quality and durability. Through Laura Gerte’s upcycling approach, the shoes are transformed into garments and accessories, shifting their function while retaining their cultural integrity. The developed show pieces evoke dark, subversive references and reinforce the collection’s feminine mood through unexpected volumes and shapes.
