Sciarpa Clara Belbachir-Garnier revisits the Greek Banquet of Discord. In the myth, three goddesses vie for the title of the most beautiful woman. Here, the three women are magnified within a dreamy, colorful atmosphere. The shoot also draws inspiration from Italian cinematography. Its name, “Sciarpa,” means “scarf” in Italian. The story portrays a simple meal among three women. However, the setting feels oneiric and unusual. The figures seem absorbed by something outside the frame.
The images exude an almost uncanny, unusual quality, while simultaneously channeling a softness expressed through the gestures shared between the three women. Through this atmosphere, Sciarpa places female figures within a surreal context. The story moves between cinema, painting, film, and photography, creating an ongoing dialogue between softness, the uncanny, and the female gaze.
Clara Belbachir-Garnier is a French photographer and art director. Trained at the École du Louvre, she develops an artistic practice centered on female figures, regularly staging them in surreal contexts that question the very essence of the “female gaze.” After working for major fashion houses, she launched her career as a freelance photographer, regularly collaborating with artists and brands.
