Berlin gains a new cultural destination this September with the opening of Our Sake Club, founded by Richie Hawtin and Laura Käding-Hawtin. Part bar, part shop, part online store, Our Sake Club is a home for artisanal Japanese sake and a community space where sake, music, culture, and conversation converge.
Our Sake Club Opens in Berlin-Kreuzberg Friday & Saturday, 19–20 September 2025, Reichenberger Straße 36

Located at Reichenberger Straße 36 in Kreuzberg, the space will open its doors to the public on Friday and Saturday, 19–20 September, from 4–10 PM. Guests will be welcomed to discover a unique collection of contemporary Japanese sake. Curated food pairings from Berlin chefs, and an intimate listening environment.
Our Sake Club is more than a bar. It is a meeting point between Japanese craftsmanship and Berlin creativity, a space where curiosity guides every experience. The mission is simple yet ambitious: to make sake part of everyday life — from a bottle in the fridge to a toast at a birthday or a first date.

In 2020, Rich and Laura, together with a partner, opened Sake36, introducing Berlin to contemporary artisanal sake and quickly establishing a community hub for locals and international guests. After its closure in March 2024, Rich and Laura, together with manager Oscar Casagrande, founded Our Sake Club to carry their vision further.
While Sake 36 pioneered the conversation, Our Sake Club goes deeper — sourcing directly from innovative young brewers in Japan, many of whom don’t export outside their local regions. With some bottles limited to just a dozen per year, the bar offers experiences unavailable anywhere else in Europe.

Designed by Abcarius Burns architects. The former Späti was rebuilt from the ground up. Featuring a cooling cellar to maintain a strict cold-chain import process and a long ash-wood communal table where guests share sake side by side. The design blends Japanese simplicity with Berlin warmth, enhanced by handcrafted glassware and ceramics from Japan and Europe.
While sake is the beating heart of the project. Equal care was given to the sound environment. Together with Johannes Kraemer, Richie Hawtin’s touring sound engineer for over 20 years. A custom sound system was envisioned and installed. Inspired by the listening culture of Japanese hi-fi bars. It enriches the space with subtle depth and clarity, designed not to dominate but to complement the sake experience.
