Amsterdam and Paris based shoemaking brand Marko Baković invited to an extraordinary exhibition at Paris Fashion Week. The brand is known for its experimental approach to design and sculptural forms. They present footwear as Art, Object and Expression.

The Exhibition focuses on the shoe itself without the body. Traditional shoe-making techniques are set in motion, without their usual promise of wear. The shoe becomes a piece of Art. Instead of designing towards a finished product, that’s meant to accommodate a person, there’s room to experiment, without boundaries. Sculptural propositions test material behavior. Artefacts emerge first, only afterwards does footwear appear.

Leather remembers. It remembers weight before it remembers shape.
Leather is an important theme in ‘ARTEFACTS’. Throughout the Exhibition, leather arrives with prior histories: furniture industry waste, faulty skins once designed for Hermes production, vintage python dead-stock, fragments reclaimed from discarded sofas. These materials carry economies of luxury and rejection.
