A Personal and Cultural Debut from the Lyon-Based Artist, Tauceti
Lyon-based DJ, producer, and composer Tauceti (Lilou Chelal) introduces her debut full-length album Guanyin via the German label Denovali. The release is available in CD, LP, and digital formats and showcases the artist’s first venture into ambient music after establishing herself through sensual, dark techno sets.
Premiere: Tauceti – Khit Errouh
Today marks the premiere of one of the album’s standout pieces, “Khit Errouh”, an ambient track that embodies the introspective and culturally rooted direction of Guanyin. The piece reflects the album’s central ethos: blending Middle Eastern and Asian heritage with experimental electronics and classical undertones.
An Exploration of Identity Through Sound
Described by Tauceti as her “most personal record,” Guanyin is a tribute to her Middle Eastern and Asian origins. Over eight tracks—including titles like “Hélios”, “Black Mamba”, and “Let me sleep at Artachat”—she draws from traditional instrumental patterns, infusing them with drone, ambient textures, and sound distortions. The result is a sonic journey “at the border between futurism and cultural heritage.”
Known for her percussive and vaporous techno sets, Tauceti’s move into ambient is both a return and a reinvention. She recalls that her earliest productions already leaned toward ambient, and Guanyin offers a chance to fully explore that side of her artistry. Some of the tracks were recently performed during her ambient set at Nuits Sonores, ahead of Vail and Rødhåd’s live performance.
Guanyin marks the beginning of what Tauceti calls a “privileged relationship” with Denovali, a label known for its boundary-pushing catalog. The album not only introduces a new sonic palette from the artist but also reaffirms her ability to bridge multiple aesthetic registers—from techno to ambient, from club to contemplation.
