Nanzhen Yang is a DJ, producer and multidisciplinary artist based in London and Berlin. Drawing from her background in multidisciplinary art, she approaches DJing as a form of storytelling. Driving techno kicks anchor her sound, while layered soundscapes, subtle moods, and precise energy control unfold around them. Together, they create an immersive tension that draws listeners in.

She crafts each mix as a compelling sound piece, choosing tracks for their unique textures and emotional impact. Her music drives the dance floor, ignites the crowd, and connects club culture with art spaces through lasting sonic experiences. She shaped her sound during eight formative years in London. As a result, she became a regular at the legendary East London club Fold. She also holds a residency at Boudica, a platform that champions women, trans+, and non-binary artists while exploring the deeper, more playful sides of electronic music

She moved to Berlin in 2025 and quickly appeared at OXI, RSO, KitKat and Kwia. That same year, she became a resident DJ at Groundless Factory, the legendary techno club and art space in Beijing. With upcoming shows at Berghain|Panorama Bar (Säule) and Tempio del Futuro Perduto (Milan) in 2026, she continues to expand her musical footprint across cities including Copenhagen, Vienna, Riga, Prague, Shanghai, Tokyo, Melbourne and Seoul.
Ahead of the KEYI Event at Säule on the 15th of January, we spoke to the artist.
Opening Säule is about setting a tone of the night, not just a tempo, what emotional story are you planning into at Berghain basement?
What if this world contained another one? This is the question I thought of sometimes when getting into Berghain. I can imagine my opening set at säule would be, if it is in phases, like a system slowly finding its ground state: locating, breathing – slowly to build the imagination of the night.

How does your multidisciplinary art practice shape the way you open a space like Säule?
Working as a multidisciplinary artist has given me the perspective to see that Säule is not fully “empty” when the doors just open – it has been written on a unique architectural style, solid concrete pillars as materiality, with the soaring ceiling, we all knew the energy could then flow through. I would follow this mood board to start my sound.
Beneath the driving techno, your sound is rich with tension and subtle moods. How do you decide how deep to go when you’re opening the night?
Dynamic, Dynamic, Dynamic…
From Fold and Boudica to Säule — how has your journey between cities and scenes reshaped your approach to storytelling on the dance floor?

My music journey started from East London queer community, it shaped the fundamental elements of my sound through queerness, openness and experimental progress were also my early approaches to music. Boudica, as my first residency changed me deeply in how I understood dance floors and how music as the glue to build a community full of support and love. Fold has a forever special place in my heart – no words could describe how those Sunday afternoons with the light leaking in from the window seam influenced me, and my sound. Recently, I found my interest in dystopian topics, I think I would follow this thread to explore more.
