Balenciaga Spring 27: “Unsized – A Lightness of Being,”

Balenciaga’s Spring 27 collection, titled “Unsized – A Lightness of Being,” introduces new concept under the creative direction by Pierpaolo Piccioli.

The collection rethinks not just how clothes look, but how they exist in relation to the body itself.

The shoot took place at the historic Balenciaga couture salon at 10 Avenue George V in Paris. Full team credits you can find at the end of this article.

At the heart of the season the pieces that move away from rigid sizing and fixed structure in favour of fluidity, adaptability, and freedom. Instead of forcing the body into predefined silhouettes, garments are shaped around it using soft construction techniques such as ribbons, draping, and lightweight layering.

The collection uses ultra-light materials including techno taffeta, cashmere, mohair, poplin, and denim, with entire looks reportedly weighing less than a kilogram. This creates silhouettes that feel almost weightless.

Visually, the collection continues Balenciaga’s tradition of architectural design but softens it significantly. Classic house codes – balloon shapes, cocoon forms, and draped volumes – are reinterpreted with a sense of ease and motion rather than heaviness or exaggeration. Even tailoring feels looser, more breathable, and closer to everyday life.

Another defining idea is the blurring of formal and casual wear. Jeans appear under evening gowns, while formal silhouettes adopt the relaxed attitude of streetwear.

Accessories and bags are also softened and re-engineered, reinforcing the idea of clothing as something flexible rather than fixed.

Overall, Spring 27 presents a quieter, more introspective Balenciaga – less about shock value and more about freedom, movement, and redefining what “fit” means in luxury fashion today.
