Berlin Fashion Week has long been a platform for experimentation, but few presentations have challenged the traditional runway format as boldly as BLACK EYE, the first solo show by Berlin-based mixed-reality designer Taskin Goec. Presented by PLATTE at Lobe Block in Gesundbrunnen, the event welcomed more than 800 guests and explored a new way of presenting and producing fashion.
A runway without garments
Rather than a conventional catwalk, BLACK EYE transformed the venue into an immersive digital experience. Large-scale screens stretched across the space, displaying twenty-five looks while visitors gathered on both sides, echoing the familiar layout of a fashion show.
Meanwhile, the presentation unfolded in two acts: the digital collection accompanied by live algorithmic organ music from GAMUT Inc., followed by NEW SUNS, a series of short films created by students from the University of the Arts Berlin.
Furthermore, the raw architecture of Lobe Block reinforced the minimalist concept, allowing the visuals, music, and audience interaction to become the focus of the evening. Instead of relying on physical garments moving down a runway, Taskin Goec demonstrated that fashion can be experienced just as powerfully through digital storytelling.
Where craftsmanship meets artificial intelligence
At the heart of the collection is a dialogue between traditional craftsmanship and artificial intelligence. Every design begins with physical experimentation using real fabrics before entering Taskin’s AI workflow. Trained on his own creative language, the system generates multiple design variations that are then carefully selected and refined by the designer himself.
Rather than replacing the designer, artificial intelligence becomes another creative tool.
As a result, the process that combines human intuition with technological innovation, producing designs that remain rooted in craftsmanship while exploring entirely new creative possibilities.
A different vision for fashion production
Beyond the presentation itself, BLACK EYE proposes a new approach to fashion production. The collection is introduced digitally first, with physical garments produced only for the designs that resonate with the market. In this way, the project encourages a more thoughtful conversation around sustainability, efficiency, and the future of digital and physical fashion.
Moreover, the presentation also reflected a broader shift taking place across the industry. As digital technologies continue to transform creative practice, fashion is increasingly expanding beyond the traditional runway into immersive experiences where film, music, architecture, and artificial intelligence become equally important parts of the narrative.
Looking beyond the runway
Ultimately, BLACK EYE, Taskin Goec presented more than a collection. The project invited audiences to reconsider how fashion is created, experienced, and ultimately brought into the physical world.
As a result, combining craftsmanship with emerging technology while keeping the designer firmly at the centre of the creative process, the presentation demonstrated that innovation does not have to replace tradition—it can evolve alongside it.
Overall,As Berlin Fashion Week continues to champion experimental voices, BLACK EYE stands as one of the season’s most thought-provoking presentations, offering a glimpse into what the future of fashion may look like.
