Gallery Weekend Berlin 2023: Must See Exhibitions & Galleries

From 28 to 30 April, Berlin will once again be a playground for art lovers for a weekend & over 50 Berlin galleries will open their doors and show us the best of the current art scene.

Sprüth Magers : Cao Fei “Duotopia”

Cao Fei‘s major exhibition will transform all of the Sprueth Magers Gallery’s spaces and premiere several new works outside of China that delve into the metaverse, virtual reality and the interactions between human and machine consciousness.

For over two decades, the work of Cao Fei has stood at the forefront of thinking around art, media, technology and futurity. Diverse in medium and approach, her projects explore facets of everyday existence mingled with the surreal and spectacular to tap into deep-seeded questions around what it means to be human in this ever-shifting twenty-first century.

From April 28, 6–9pm, on view through August 19, 2023.

차오 페이의 주요 전시회는 스프루스 매거스 갤러리의 모든 공간을 변화시키고 메타버스, 가상 현실, 인간과 기계 의식의 상호작용을 탐구하는 여러 가지 새로운 작품을 중국 외 지역에서 최초로 공개합니다.

20년 넘게 예술, 미디어, 기술 및 미래에 대한 사고의 최전선에 서 있는 차오 페이의 작품이 소개됩니다. 매체와 접근 방식이 다양한 그녀의 프로젝트는 초현실적이고 스펙터클한 것과 어우러진 일상적 존재의 측면을 탐구하여 끊임없이 변화하는 21세기에 인간이라는 존재가 갖는 의미에 대한 뿌리 깊은 질문을 던집니다.

GALERIE BASTIAN : Cy Twombly “Forms and Shades”  

Cy Twombly’s photographic work started already when he was a student at Black Mountain College and was exhibited publicly for the first time in 1993. Landscapes and seascapes, studio scenes, still lifes, flowers and blooms; testimonies of moments in which the conflict between nature and culture seems suspended, moments that transform the material and inconspicuous physiognomy of a subject into a lyrical image. Twombly’s subject, the fragment, seems weightless. The artist enlarged his blurry images, taken with an instant camera, and printed them with an extraordinary process of dry printing on matt paper. Twombly’s photographs touch on a poetised Mediterranean nature, whose essence is revealed in light and shadow, its becoming and passing in the changing seasons.

갤러리 바스티안: 사이 트옴블리 “형태와 음영”

사이 톰블리의 사진 작업은 블랙 마운틴 칼리지 재학 시절부터 시작되어 1993년 처음으로 공개적으로 전시되었습니다. 풍경과 바다 풍경, 스튜디오 장면, 정물, 꽃과 꽃, 자연과 문화 사이의 갈등이 멈춘 듯한 순간, 피사체의 물질적이고 눈에 띄지 않는 생김새를 서정적인 이미지로 변화시키는 순간에 대한 증언. 트옴블리의 주제인 파편은 무중력처럼 보입니다. 작가는 즉석 카메라로 촬영한 흐릿한 이미지를 확대하여 무광택 종이에 드라이 프린팅하는 특별한 과정을 거쳐 인쇄했습니다. 트옴블리의 사진은 빛과 그림자, 계절의 변화에 따라 생성과 소멸을 반복하며 그 본질이 드러나는 지중해의 자연을 시적으로 표현합니다.

Lucia Koch’s immersive sculptural, photographic, and installative works shift and reimagine the spaces they occupy by proposing new relations of scale, occupation, and materiality. Her practice has developed through careful attention to the physical and social aspects of urban life and architecture, beginning with her early site-responsive interventions with the collective project Arte Construtora in the 1990s and extending to more recent installations that transform public spaces and exhibition venues through the use of translucent materials, perforated surfaces, fabrics, and cinematographic filters.

CHERTLÜDDE : Monia Ben Hamouda  “About Telepathy and other Violences”

As part of Berlin Gallery Weekend, Italian-Tunisian artist Monia Ben Hamouda (1991, Milan) presents her solo exhibition About Telepathy and other Violences at ChertLüdde. Living between al-Qayrawan and Milan, her work reflects her dual Islamic and Christian heritage, sculpting calligraphic references that blend identity and meaning, specifically emphasizing aniconism in Islamic tradition. On the floor of the exhibition, wood sculptures bandaged with cloth rest among twelve hanging steel sculptures to highlight the contrasts between the dynamic gestures and static pauses in their form.

CHERTLÜDDE : 모니아 벤 하무다 “텔레파시 및 기타 폭력에 대하여”

베를린 갤러리 위켄드의 일환으로 이탈리아-튀니지 출신 예술가 모니아 벤 하무다(1991년생, 밀라노)가 체르트 뤼데에서 개인전 <텔레파시와 다른 폭력들에 관하여>를 개최합니다. 알콰이라완과 밀라노에 거주하는 그녀의 작품은 이슬람과 기독교의 이중적 유산을 반영하여 정체성과 의미를 혼합한 서예적 참조를 조각하며, 특히 이슬람 전통의 무신론을 강조합니다. 전시장 바닥에는 천으로 붕대를 감은 나무 조각품이 12개의 매달린 강철 조각품 사이에 놓여 역동적인 몸짓과 정적인 멈춤의 대비를 강조합니다.
