Sónar+D takes a leap forward this year: introducing new spaces; occupying all of the Palau de Congressos; and inaugurating two new areas. SonarÁgora will host debates, while the new Stage+D is dedicated to talks with a strong audiovisual component and hybrid performances that sit between conference and concert.

Sónar Barcelona returns in 2022 to its usual format : across three days (16, 17 & 18 June) at Fira Montjuïc and two nights (17 & 18 of June) at Fira Gran Via. The festival will feature more than 100 shows, combining star power, exclusive concerts, hotly anticipated returns to the stage and a wide representation of the most important current global and local talent.

Sónar 2022 features world-leading international audiovisual concerts, such as the legendary British duo The Chemical Brothers who’ll present their latest album No Geography live as part of a new immersive audiovisual show; and Berlin trio Moderat, who return to the stage after a hiatus with their new album MORE D4TA. They’re joined by French epic electronica duo The Blaze; Bonobo presenting his latest album Fragments, and live sets from Polo & Pan and Overmono.

Sónar 2022 will also include world premieres of previously unreleased pieces, created especially for the festival. Niño de Elche+Ylia+Banda “La Valenciana”: ‘Concert de músika festera’ will reinterpret the music of popular festivals with over 40 musicians; Maria Arnal i Marcel Bages present Hiperutopia, a re-imagining of their album Clamor including a choir of voices processed live by Artificial Intelligence; Arca debuts at Sónar by Night with a new stage-show that presents her last four albums; and Spanish queer phenomenon Samantha Hudson, who performs at the festival for the first time with ‘Liquidación Total’, a new live show designed especially for Sónar which promises to be as radical as it is spectacular.

They’re joined by first-time on-stage back-to-backs from Jennifer Cardini b2b Perel and Midland & Shanti Celeste; live sets from Paranoid London and Louisahhh; the European premiere of Tiga & Hudson Mohawke’s Love Minus Zero; and a debut Spanish appearance of an eight-handed back-to-back from acclaimed Berlin collective Herrensauna XXL.

They’ll appear alongside other more intimate and introspective performers: nostalgic Irish producer and spoken word artist For Those I Love; magical Franco-Venezuelan vocalist La Chica; and the esoteric Italian duo Nu Genea, who’ll appear with a live band.

Sónar will host even more unique and special shows, serpentwithfeet, whose work revindicates black queer love, as well as British experimental pop performer Sega Bodega. They all perform in the SonarHall, which will also witness the birth of a new collaboration between Pedro Vian & Mana.

Sónar+D takes a leap forward this year and introduces new spaces, taking over the whole of the Palau de Congressos de Barcelona. There’s also the inauguration of the debate area SonarÁgora and a new Stage+D dedicated to talks with a high level of audiovisual components and hybrid shows. Sónar +D is integrated organically into Sónar by Day, offering an exciting new format that encourage interaction, discovery and physical encounters. The main themes will focus on Web3 (cryptoart, NFTs, metaverse and new digital economies); Artificial Intelligence (AI) and its artistic, technological, political, social and ethical implications; and Acoustic Ecology, with talks and presentations on human activity on the planet observed via sound, which in turn, has become a fundamental source for research and technological development.
