As Keyi Magazine teams up with Seoul’s underground collective Neokidsvilla for a special night at BBCB on December 13th, the spotlight also turns to the creative force behind the venue itself—Kim.Qna, founder of BBCB. Known for shaping experiences where sound, architecture, and human energy collide, he has become a defining figure in Seoul’s evolving underground movement.

Ahead of the Berlin × Seoul collaboration, we spoke with him about the vision behind BBCB, his approach to building cultural spaces, and what this joint event with Keyi and Neokidsvilla means for the city’s underground future.

How are you? Could you introduce yourself?
안녕하세요! 자기소개를 부탁드립니다.
My name is Kim.Qna, a DJ and the founder of BBCB (Beton Brut & Concrete Bar), an underground venue located in Itaewon, Seoul. I am also developing Bask Terrace in Jeju Island. Through projects that combine music, F&B, space, and culture, I aim to create environments where people engage with experiences rather than consume nightlife in a conventional way.
저는 Kim.Qna이며, DJ이자 서울 이태원에 위치한 언더그라운드 베뉴 BBCB(Beton Brut & Concrete Bar)의 창립자입니다. 또한 현재 제주도에서 Bask Terrace 프로젝트를 개발하고 있습니다. 음악, F&B, 공간, 문화가 결합된 프로젝트를 통해 사람들이 단순히 밤문화를 소비하는 것이 아니라 경험에 몰입할 수 있는 환경을 만드는 데 집중하고 있습니다.
What inspired you to create BBCB in the heart of Itaewon?
이태원의 중심에 BBCB를 만들게 된 영감은 무엇이었나요?
Itaewon has long been a place where diverse cultures intersect and new energy emerges. To me, it represented an experimental landscape where subcultures coexist, clash, and evolve. From this environment, I wanted to develop a space that could express underground culture in its raw form and offer an atmosphere where the essential energy of music and space can be fully experienced. BBCB was created as a hub where this vision could take shape.
이태원은 오래전부터 다양한 문화가 교차하며 새로운 에너지가 탄생하는 공간이었습니다. 저에게 이곳은 서브컬처가 공존하고 충돌하며 진화하는 실험적인 곳이었고, 그 속에서 언더그라운드 컬처를 가장 ‘날것’ 그대로 표현하고자 했습니다. BBCB는 이러한 비전을 실현하기 위한 장소로 탄생했습니다.
How would you describe BBCB’s vibe in three words?
BBCB의 분위기를 세 단어로 표현한다면?
“Raw, Immersive, Emotional”
BBCB was designed to preserve the raw texture of the space while enhancing immersion through sound and lighting. The emotional dimension arises naturally from the energy shared among the people within the venue.

BBCB는 공간의 거친 질감을 살리면서도 사운드와 조명을 통해 높은 몰입감을 설계했습니다. 그 속에서 사람들이 공유하는 에너지가 자연스럽게 감정적인 분위기를 형성합니다.
What makes Beton Brut and Concrete Bar feel so different from each other?
Beton Brut와 Concrete Bar는 어떤 점에서 서로 다른가요?
Although both share concrete as their primary material, their energies differ significantly. Beton Brut functions as a space of release, dark, intense, and driven by sound. Concrete Bar operates as a social and open environment where people interact, warm up, and explore rhythm in a more relaxed manner. The contrast between the two spaces defines BBCB’s overall identity.
두 공간 모두 콘크리트를 주요 소재로 사용하지만 에너지는 확연히 다릅니다.
Beton Brut는 어둡고 강렬하며 사운드 중심의 해방의 공간이고, Concrete Bar는 사람들이 워밍업하고 소통하며 여유로운 리듬을 즐기는 개방적인 공간입니다.
이 대비가 BBCB의 전체적 정체성을 형성합니다.
What’s your favorite moment you’ve ever experienced inside BBCB?
BBCB에서 경험한 가장 인상 깊은 순간은 무엇인가요?
Rather than a single memorable moment, the process of preparing events with the team, friends, and artists has been the most meaningful aspect. Collaboration and shared effort give each event its value. Regardless of attendance, there are always brief moments when the atmosphere aligns and the collective energy becomes palpable, which reinforces the purpose of maintaining and developing this space.
특정한 한 장면보다도, 팀·친구·아티스트들과 함께 이벤트를 준비하는 과정 전체가 가장 의미 있습니다. 관객 수와 관계없이 어느 순간 공간의 분위기와 에너지가 완벽히 맞아떨어지는 찰나가 있고, 그 순간들이 이 공간을 지속하고 발전시켜야 하는 이유를 상기시켜 줍니다.
How do you choose which artists—local or international—to bring to the venue?
BBCB의 로컬 및 해외 아티스트는 어떤 기준으로 선정하나요?
For large-scale events, recognition can be a factor, but BBCB’s core focus is on the direction of sound and the compatibility between the artist and the space. The venue prioritizes artists with consistent musical identity and a clear narrative. Whether local or international, preference is given to those who can engage with BBCB and contribute to building culture together over time.
대형 이벤트에서는 인지도가 고려될 수 있지만, BBCB가 가장 중요하게 보는 것은 사운드 방향성과 공간과의 호흡입니다. 음악적 정체성이 명확하고 서사가 분명한 아티스트를 우선합니다. 로컬과 해외를 구분하기보다 BBCB와 장기적으로 문화적 교류를 이어갈 수 있는 아티스트에게 초점을 둡니다.
What’s the biggest lesson you’ve learned running an underground music space?
언더그라운드 음악 공간을 운영하며 얻은 가장 큰 교훈은 무엇인가요?
The primary lesson has been the importance of consistency—maintaining identity without compromise. Trends shift rapidly, but sustaining a clear vision eventually builds appreciation and trust. It has also become clear that the essence of a venue is ultimately shaped by the energy of the people who inhabit it.
가장 큰 교훈은 정체성을 흔들림 없이 유지하는 일관성의 가치입니다. 트렌드는 빠르게 변하지만, 명확한 비전을 지속하는 것이 결국 신뢰와 지지를 이끌어냅니다. 또한 공간의 본질은 결국 그 안을 채우는 사람들의 에너지에 의해 결정된다는 점을 배웠습니다.
How does Seoul influence the sound and culture of BBCB?

Seoul’s dynamic rhythm and constant flow of creative energy have a strong influence on BBCB’s sound and culture. The city is driven by audiences who are curious, open-minded, and eager to explore new experiences. This atmosphere fosters a unique environment where experimentation is encouraged and underground culture can evolve naturally. BBCB’s identity is shaped by this vibrant energy that defines Seoul.

The “Art Cells on Concrete” collaboration extends beyond a standard event by integrating photography and music within a single experimental framework.
