Helmut Newton Foundation in Berlin opens two new exhibitions: Rooms / Stages and Helmut Newton’s One-off Album.

On 4 June 2026, the Helmut Newton Foundation in Berlin opens two new exhibitions: Rooms / Stages and Helmut Newton’s One-off Album. The front rooms present works by a dozen artists exploring the theme of space and stage. In the main hall, monumental motifs by Helmut Newton continue the theme. This section of the group exhibition “Rooms / Stages” leads to the rear gallery. There, Berlin audiences see a unique Helmut Newton photo album for the first time. This selection also includes images that visualize the transformation of space into a stage.
The group Exhibition Rooms / Stages takes inspiration from the preproduction process for feature films. Where location scouts are send out to find settings suitable for specific scenes. The artists in this group exhibition are Viktoria Binschtok, Götz Diergarten, Anna Lehmann Brauns, Jana Sophia Nolle, Julia Peirone, Robert Polidori, Friederike von Rauch, Ricarda Roggan, Georges Rousse, Gregor Schneider, Karen Stuke and Paolo Ventura. Each Artist presents one body of work. They consciously incorporate the space into their staged portraits, use long exposures to let people or dancers disappear, or focus on deserted interiors.
The second part of the exhibition shows the work of Helmut Newton. In this we see how he transformed locations into stages. From luxurious hotel interiors in big cities to outdoor settings and even his own garage. He operated like a film director and set designer on the stages he created.
The third part of the summer exhibition is devoted to an album assembled by Helmut Newton in 1999. It includes 112 small-format original prints in black-and-white and color, in various dimensions. Newton and collector Gert Elfering selected the prints, mounted them on card stock, and added handwritten titles or anecdotes.
