Jeff Mills brings rare 1995 recordings to light with ‘GAMMA RAYS’

Axis Records announces ‘GAMMA RAYS’, a collection of rare, previously unreleased recordings by Jeff Mills, originally created for his 1995 Live At Liquid Room DJ mix film and audio recording in Tokyo. Nearly three decades after being recorded and mastered onto reel-to-reel tapes, these tracks are finally set for release on 12-inch vinyl.
In 1995, Jeff Mills recorded his now-legendary Live At Liquid Room DJ mix in Tokyo. Liquid Room was the venue where this landmark performance took place, which later became an important part of Mills’ recorded legacy. The project also involved the creation of original music specifically for its accompanying film and audio recording.
Among these recordings was the track ‘i9’, which Mills created during the same period. He was also working on material for Waveform Transmission 5, an unreleased project, and developing the initial tracks for the first release on his label, Purpose Maker.
‘GAMMA RAYS’ brings together four rare recordings from this period: ‘i4’, ‘i8’, ‘i6’ and ‘i2’, all of which have remained unheard since those two nights in Tokyo. Finalized and mastered onto ¼-inch reel-to-reel tapes, the recordings were kept undisturbed for nearly three decades.
Now released through Axis Records under catalogue number AX131, ‘GAMMA RAYS’ offers a rare opportunity to discover music created during one of Jeff Mills’ significant creative periods in the mid-1990s. The 12-inch vinyl is now available for pre-order.
