As Keyi Magazine joins forces with Seoul’s underground collective Neokidsvilla for a special night on December 13th at BBCB, the spotlight turns to one of the artists shaping the pulse of Seoul’s underground: Hasla.
12월 13일 서울 BBCB에서 Keyi Magazine과 서울 언더그라운드 컬렉티브 Neokidsvilla가 함께하는 특별한 밤을 앞두고, 이번 이벤트의 주목할 아티스트는 서울 언더그라운드 씬의 흐름을 만들어가고 있는 하슬라다.
Starting as a street dancer, Hasla developed an instinctive sense of rhythm and energy that now defines her multi-layered sets across EBM, Italo Disco, Trance, and Techno. As the director of Neokidsvilla, she curates a space where music, fashion, visual art, and LGBTQ culture intersect, collaborating with artists from around the world and performing at venues such as WOMB Tokyo, HÖR Berlin, MGG Seoul, and BBCB. Her sets unfold with emotion, energy, and storytelling, creating a deep, intuitive connection with the crowd.
어린 시절 스트리트 댄서로 시작한 하슬라는 몸으로 체득한 리듬과 에너지 감각을 바탕으로, 현재 EBM, Italo Disco, Trance, Techno를 아우르는 다층적 셋으로 자신만의 음악적 세계를 펼치고 있다. Neokidsvilla의 디렉터로서 음악, 패션, 비주얼 아트, LGBTQ 문화를 교차시키는 창작 공간을 큐레이션하며, 국내외 아티스트들과 협업하고 WOMB Tokyo, HÖR Berlin, MGG 서울, BBCB 등 다양한 무대에서 활동해왔다. 그녀의 셋은 감정과 에너지, 스토리텔링이 자연스럽게 이어지며 관객과 깊은 교감을 만들어낸다.
Ahead of her set at BBCB Seoul, we spoke with Hasla about her beginnings, inspirations, and the vision she brings to the Berlin × Seoul underground collaboration with Keyi Magazine.
이번 BBCB 서울에서의 공연을 앞두고, 우리는 하슬라와 그녀의 음악적 시작, 영감, 그리고 Keyi Magazine과 함께 만드는 Berlin × Seoul 언더그라운드 협업 이벤트에 대한 비전을 이야기했다.
How did you first get into music and art?
I was born in a very small countryside town.
The name “Hasla” also comes from the old name of the seaside city where I was born — a place not widely known, but one that holds the beginning of everything for me.It was a town where cultural experiences were hard to come by. There were no performance venues, no glamorous buildings, and none of the artistic environments city kids often grow up with. Maybe that’s why, from a young age, I learned how to create my own joy.
저는 아주 작은 시골 마을에서 태어났어요. “Hasla”라는 이름도 제가 태어난 바닷가 도시의 옛 지명에서 온 이름이에요— 세상에 널리 알려진 곳은 아니지만, 제 모든 시작이 담긴 장소예요.
그곳은 문화적 경험을 하기 어려운 동네였어요. 공연장이 있는 것도 아니고, 화려한 건물도 없고, 도시 아이들이 자연스럽게 접하는 예술적 환경도 거의 없었죠. 아마 그래서 어릴 때부터 스스로 즐거움을 만들어내는 법을 배웠던 것 같아요.
One of my most vivid memories is following my mother to the vintage aerobics studio she used to attend. Retro disco music with an analog, warm texture filled the room, with slightly rough rhythms vibrating through the speakers, and my mother dancing freely to the beat.
I danced beside her, and that was the first moment I realized, “Ah, sound can make people feel this good.” That was probably the very first page of my life in music.
가장 선명한 기억 중 하나는 엄마를 따라 엄마가 다니던 빈티지 에어로빅 스튜디오에 갔던 일이에요. 아날로그 특유의 따뜻함이 있는 레트로 디스코 음악이 공간을 가득 채우고, 약간 거친 리듬이 스피커를 통해 울리며, 엄마가 그 비트에 맞춰 자유롭게 춤을 추던 모습이 떠올라요.
저도 옆에서 함께 춤을 추고 있었고, 그 순간 처음으로 깨달았어요. “아, 소리가 사람을 이렇게 기분 좋게 할 수 있구나.” 그게 제 음악 인생의 첫 페이지였던 것 같아요.
As I grew older, I danced across many genres.
I performed as a Latin dancer, trained in classical dance, and spent countless nights practicing with my hip-hop club, dancing on the streets with my friends.
그러다 점점 자라면서 정말 다양한 장르의 춤을 접하게 되었어요. 라틴 댄서로 무대에도 섰고, 클래식 무용도 배웠고,
힙합 동아리에서 밤새 연습하고 친구들과 길거리에서 춤을 추기도 했죠.
In a town with so few cultural resources, listening to new music meant downloading MP3 files, burning them onto CDs, and editing everything myself. Looking back, that was the rawest form of DJing — searching for the right tracks, arranging them, connecting them, and creating my own flow.
문화적 자원이 적다 보니 새로운 음악을 듣기 위해서는 MP3 파일을 다운받아서 CD로 굽고, 직접 편집해야 했어요. 돌이켜보면 그게 가장 원초적인 형태의 DJing이었어요— 맞는 트랙을 찾고, 배열하고, 연결해서 나만의 흐름을 만드는 과정 말이에요.
친구들과 함께 춤추는 영상을 찍으며 음악과 움직임으로 감정을 표현하곤 했어요. 그렇게 우리는 우리만의 세계를 만들었고, 그 경험들이 지금 제가 하는 모든 것의 기반이 되었죠.
부모님이 작은 옷가게를 운영하셨는데, 학교 끝나고 도우면서 정리, 디스플레이 구성, 균형감, 스타일링, 시각적 조화 등을 자연스럽게 배웠어요. 그래서 패션 역시 음악만큼 자연스럽고 중요한 또 하나의 언어가 되었어요.
지금 제가 DJ로서 연주하는 음악, 사운드와 비주얼, 패션을 섞어 분위기를 만드는 방식, 그리고 사람들의 감정을 움직이는 퍼포먼스까지— 모두 제 어린 시절 보고 듣고 느꼈던 것들과 연결되어 있어요.
My friends and I filmed ourselves dancing, expressing our emotions through movement and music. Together, we built a world that felt indescribably ours, and that became the foundation of what I do today.
My parents also ran a small clothing shop, and helping them after school taught me so much. Sorting clothes, creating displays, learning balance, styling, and visual harmony — fashion naturally became another language for me, just as important as music.
Today, the music I play as a DJ, the mood I build by blending sound, visuals, and fashion, and the performances that move people emotionally —
all connect directly to what I saw, heard, and felt in my childhood.
The artist I am today is shaped by the ocean breeze of my hometown, the rhythm of my mother’s dancing, the nights dancing in small alleys, the textures and scents of my parents’ shop, and the vibrations of the music I shared with my friends. All those layers came together to create the person and artist I am now.
바닷바람이 부는 고향,
춤추는 엄마의 리듬,
좁은 골목에서 춤추던 밤들,
부모님의 가게에서 느꼈던 질감과 향기,
친구들과 나눴던 음악의 진동—
이 모든 층위들이 모여 지금의 저라는 아티스트를 만든 것 같아요.
Do you remember the moment you thought, “This is what I want to do”?
I also loved gathering the music I enjoyed and playing it for people in the right moments. Seeing them light up and react to the tracks I chose made me genuinely happy.
Whenever I pulled out the songs I had collected and shared them with my friends, their excitement and joy became very special memories for me.
I think that’s when it started. The feeling that I want to share the music I love with people, and that DJing might be something that fits me perfectly began to grow naturally inside me.
제가 좋아하는 음악을 모아서 적절한 순간에 사람들에게 들려주는 걸 정말 좋아했어요. 제가 고른 음악에 사람들이 반응하고, 밝아지는 모습을 보는 게 너무 행복했거든요.
친구들에게 제가 모은 노래를 틀어주면 그들이 신나하고 기뻐하는 모습이 특별한 기억으로 남았어요. 아마 그때 시작된 것 같아요.
내가 사랑하는 음악을 사람들과 나누고 싶다는 감정, 그리고 DJ라는 것이 나와 잘 맞는 일일지도 모른다는 감정이 자연스럽게 커져가기 시작한 순간이었어요.
Who inspired you when you started?
I wasn’t inspired by just one person when I started. It felt more like different elements coming together and gradually shaping my artistic sensibility.
Musically, Daft Punk had a huge influence on me from a very young age. Their sound and futuristic world-building played a decisive role in pulling me into electronic music.
처음 시작할 때 특정 한 사람에게 영감을 받았다기보다는, 여러 요소가 모여 제 감각을 만들어준 느낌이었어요.
음악적으로는 아주 어릴 때부터 Daft Punk의 영향이 컸어요.
그들의 사운드와 미래적인 세계관은
제가 일렉트로닉 음악으로 빠져들게 한 결정적인 요소였죠.
Visually, I was greatly inspired by Mademoiselle Yulia. Her bold, colorful styling and the way she blended fashion and music so naturally became a foundation for the mood and imagery I’m drawn to today.
In the end, I think what inspired me wasn’t a single famous artist, but the music and visuals I loved as a child, the people around me who grew and moved with me, and all the environments and moments that I lived through.
비주얼적으로는 Mademoiselle Yulia에게 큰 영감을 받았어요. 대담하고 다채로운 스타일링, 패션과 음악을 자연스럽게 섞는 방식은 지금 제가 좋아하는 무드와 이미지의 기반이 되었어요.
결국, 저를 영감 준 것은 유명한 한 명의 아티스트가 아니라 어린 시절 제가 좋아했던 음악과 비주얼, 함께 성장하며 움직였던 사람들, 그리고 제가 살아낸 환경과 순간들이었던 것 같아요.
How did your collaboration with Keyi Magazine happen?
It happened when I went to play at HÖR Berlin.
That’s where I randomly met the Keyi Magazine crew.
Berlin Bunny and Eyes Dice were there to support a friend, and I happened to be playing on the same lineup that day. We started talking, and I learned that they had visited Korea several times before.The conversation flowed naturally, and that’s how our connection began. That initial encounter eventually grew into a meaningful relationship, and it led us to create an event together in Korea.
HÖR Berlin에서 플레이하러 갔을 때였어요.
그곳에서 우연히 Keyi Magazine 팀을 만나게 되었죠.Berlin Bunny와 Eyes Dice가 친구를 응원하러 왔었는데, 마침 제가 그날 같은 라인업에서 플레이하고 있었어요. 이야기를 나누다 보니 그분들이 한국에도 여러 번 왔었다는 걸 알게 되었고, 대화가 자연스럽게 이어지면서 인연이 시작되었어요.
그 우연한 만남이 좋은 관계로 발전했고,
결국 한국에서 함께 이벤트를 만들게 되었죠.
What makes BBCB special for you?
For me, BBCB is not just a club — it’s a place where the true energy and history of the Korean underground scene breathe.
What makes it special is that it goes far beyond being a simple performance venue. BBCB feels like a central hub where artists naturally meet, connect, and spark new moods, ideas, and creative collaborations. There is a sense of community and authenticity in the air that you can immediately feel.
저에게 BBCB는 그냥 클럽이 아니에요—
한국 언더그라운드 씬의 진짜 에너지와 역사가 숨 쉬는 곳이에요. 단순히 공연을 하는 공간 그 이상이기 때문에 특별해요.BBCB는 아티스트들이 자연스럽게 만나고 연결되고, 새로운 분위기와 아이디어, 창작이 탄생하는 중심 허브처럼 느껴져요.
그 공간에는 진정성과 공동체적인 감각이 살아 있어요.
I’ve also met some of the most important people in my artistic journey here. I first met my mentor at BBCB, and I also met the team member who is now part of Neokidsvilla through this space. The fact that such meaningful relationships began in one place makes BBCB incredibly special to me.
For all these reasons, BBCB feels like a place where I can grow, experiment, exchange inspiration, and continue creating in my own way — a place that is truly alive.
또 제 예술적 여정에서 가장 중요한 사람들을 이곳에서 만났어요. 저의 멘토도 BBCB에서 처음 만났고, 지금 Neokidsvilla 팀이 된 사람도 이곳에서 만났어요. 그런 의미 있는 만
남들이 한 곳에서 시작되었다는 사실이
저에게 BBCB를 더욱 특별하게 만들어요. 그래서 BBCB는 제가 성장하고, 실험하고, 영감을 나누고, 제 방식대로 계속 창작할 수 있는— 진짜 “살아있는” 장소예요.
What is NEOKIDSVILLA in your own words?
To me, NEOKIDSVILLA is a space where we can freely explore new possibilities without being tied to any rules or expectations. But that freedom isn’t cold — it has a warm, welcoming atmosphere where anyone can feel comfortable.
Here, fashion, art, music, mood — anything can become a language, a form of expression, or a piece of work. We gather the things we love and create a “villa” that feels like visiting a friend’s home, where people can simply enjoy the moment and be happy together.
While I respect the depth and identity of the underground scene, I hope NEOKIDSVILLA can be a place where more diverse people connect naturally and share playful, warm energy.

어떤 규칙이나 기대에 얽매이지 않고 새로운 가능성을 자유롭게 탐구할 수 있는 공간이에요. 하지만 그 자유가 차갑지 않고, 누구나 편안하게 느낄 수 있는 따뜻함을 가지고 있어요.패션, 예술, 음악, 무드—
무엇이든 하나의 언어가 될 수도 있고, 표현이 될 수도 있고, 작품이 될 수도 있어요.
우리가 사랑하는 것들을 모아 친구 집에 놀러 온 느낌의 “빌라”를 만들고,
사람들이 그 안에서 편안하게 순간을 즐기고 행복해질 수 있는 공간이죠.언더그라운드 씬의 깊이와 정체성을 존중하면서도, 더 다양한 사람들이 자연스럽게 연결되고 장난스럽고 따뜻한 에너지를 나눌 수 있는 곳이 되기를 바라고 있어요.
