Johanna Gauder, a German product designer and goldsmith, bridges both disciplines through her eponymous label. She creates handcrafted jewelry that embodies a contemporary design language, and continuously balances precision with artistry to define her distinctive aesthetic.

This year’s 10th anniversary of JOHANNA GAUDER marks an important milestone in the label’s development. By crafting collections from recycled metals, the company has established a strong reputation from the very beginning. The clean designs can be playful and always have contemporary and elegant Elements.

With the redesign of the JOHANNA GAUDER studio in February 2025, the designer created a functional reorientation. Working closely with Studio Christoph Hauf, together they completely rethought the space from the ground up. As a result, they created a harmonious connection between the brand philosophy, the jewelry, and the architectural design. The multifunctional studio serves as a showroom, consultation room and event venue and reflects the organic working method and development of the JOHANNA GAUDER label. A clear, material-focused design language and a sophisticated lighting concept present the jewelry pieces in a space that combines exclusivity and openness.

âIn jewelry, materials are handled very differently compared to furniture. I wanted to break this boundary and not use lacquers or coatings -instead materials that absorb traces, have clear shapes and reveal the essentials,â says Christoph Hauf. âFor the benches, tables and stools, we work with custom-made connectors made of up to 12 mm thick, untreated aluminum plates. Over time, these will pick up fingerprints and contribute to the history of the room.â

In June Johanna Gauder launched her eighth sustainable jewelry collection made from recycled metals. For this Collection, she draws on the aesthetics of Christoph Hauf’s collaborative furniture design: The 17 pieces of jewelry; earrings, bracelets, rings and brooches are interwoven in form and meaning and captivate with clear geometric lines. The jewelry echoes the studio and celebrates the new opening. For the first time, the designer incorporates gemstones into a collection. Specifically, she offers Ring No. 37 and No. 42 in 925 sterling silver, as well as Ring No. 39 in 585 yellow gold, all set with pavĂ© diamonds.

Collection #8 is handcrafted in the Berlin studio using recycled silver and gold. Sustainability is central to both the jewelry and the studio itself: wood comes from sustainable forestry in Baden WĂŒrtemberg. The studio sources glass and mirrors from a regional glazier. Additionally, the studio leaves all materials, including raw aluminum elements, untreated. This creates a calm, cohesive atmosphere and reflects the collectionâs material-conscious design philosophy.
