Maqu’s ‘La Dama del Cacao’ Weaves Regenerative Craft and Peruvian Minimalism at Berlin Fashion Week

Berlin, January 30, 2026 — As part of Berlin Fashion Week, Maqu presents its Autumn/Winter 2026 collection, La Dama del Cacao. The collection embodies contemporary Peruvian minimalism through material innovation, textile memory, and a regenerative design approach.
La Dama del Cacao is crafted from alpaca yarns, organic cotton, and innovative biomaterials, developed through hand-knitting techniques and artisanal machinery. True to Maqu’s design philosophy of Peruvian Minimalism, each piece is designed to be versatile, timeless, and adaptable, responding to different bodies, contexts, and ways of wearing.
At the core of the collection is Cacao Leather, a newly developed bio-based vegan leather created by Maqu in Peru using waste generated by the cocoa industry. The material is dyed with achiote, a natural pigment that has been used for centuries across the Andes and the Amazon.
Cacao Leather brings together biotechnology, sustainability, and cultural heritage, proposing a new material language and expanding the future possibilities of fashion.
Rooted in nature, the color palette features earth tones, beige, cocoa browns, and shades of blue. The collection reflects Maqu’s interpretation of Peruvian minimalism — a quiet, precise aesthetic in which material integrity and process take center stage.
On January 30, 2026, Maqu hosted a Maqu Lab live presentation at the Peruvian Embassy in Berlin, followed by the opening of an accompanying art exhibition of the same name. The event showcased the brand’s latest designs while highlighting its ongoing research into biomaterials, expressing a transcontinental design vision where contemporary Peruvian minimalism meets European sophistication.
The collection will be available for pre-order starting February 2, 2026, during Berlin Fashion Week, and will be officially released in September 2026 via bymaqu.com and selected retail stores.
