MILANO FUTURA 2125: Imagining the Future of Independent Cultural Spaces Over the Next 100 Years

Milano Futura 2125 will take place in Milan from May 22 to 24, bringing together independent cultural spaces, club operators, collectives, artists, researchers, and communities from around the world to reflect on the future of nightlife, youth culture, and urban space.

The gathering is part of a wider long-term vision developed by Tempio del Futuro Perduto, one of Europe’s most active independent cultural spaces, and its project Tempio 2125, which proposes a radical rethinking of clubs and cultural venues as permanent civic infrastructure rather than temporary cultural initiatives.

At the center of this initiative is a simple but ambitious question: what would it mean to build cultural spaces designed to last 100 years?
Founded in 2018, Tempio del Futuro Perduto has grown into a hybrid cultural ecosystem where nightlife, social innovation, and urban pedagogy intersect. At night, the space transforms into a club hosting thousands of ravers and clubbers. During the day, it reopens to families, elderly people, and the wider public, operating as a continuously shifting environment between club culture and civic life.

Since its opening, Tempio has involved over 1.2 million people from 150 countries, delivering thousands of hours of multidisciplinary programming across music, arts, education, workshops, and community initiatives. Operating without structural public funding or corporate sponsorship, it has also developed a range of social projects that extend beyond culture into welfare and urban support systems.

These include the “Milan Wall of Kindness,” which has redistributed over 700 tonnes of goods with the help of hundreds of volunteers, as well as mental health support services for people under 35, swap markets, open-access education programs, and employment pathways for former inmates and political refugees. Through these initiatives, Tempio positions itself not only as a cultural venue, but as an evolving model of independent socio-cultural infrastructure.

Milano Futura 2125 will also serve as a platform for international exchange, bringing together cultural operators and independent spaces from cities including Berlin, Paris, Shanghai, Tbilisi, Barcelona, Amsterdam, Beijing, Lyon, Turin, Bologna, and Venice.

The program will feature the International Culture Spaces and Club & Rave Forum, focusing on shared practices, regulatory challenges, and the development of transnational cooperation between independent cultural spaces. The aim is to move beyond isolated local struggles and begin shaping a networked approach to cultural infrastructure that connects nightlife, community spaces, and urban policy frameworks.

At a time when many independent venues across Europe face increasing instability and closure, Milano Futura 2125 raises a fundamental question: what will a dancefloor look like in 100 years, and who will be dancing on it?
