‘on quiet paws’ is an exploration of estrangement. Through words, images, and clothing, the project offers a suggestion on how to build small bridges over the deep trenches dug across our society. By approaching people with more curiosity and interacting in a less biased way, we might find the familiarities in strangers. Past grievances could be laid to rest, and a space for learning opened in between.

But this can never happen if everyone just stomps through the world, knocking over things on all sides and simply veiling their insecurities behind a false confidence.
Why don’t we try to talk without fear, listen with respect, and move on with quieter paws.

the distant smell of fear
has not pierced our stagnant air for a long time
but we remember it well enough
on quiet paws we hush across the attic
carefully repeating past mistakes
we move down the stair
creak
the strangers sillhouette
thrown onto the entry wall
by the candle trembling in his hands.
it tells of curious disdain
is it wrong to understand
the thoughts that dwell inside the man
when looking into eyes deemed lost
and stepping into halls forgotten
his thorny offering
embraced without greed
seems to make
roots of change start to take
is it strange to dance
so soon
our limbs move
so do the clouds
clearing the dawning sky
but when will it fog up again?
the flowers reflect in the mirror
their pollen spread a thousand fold
into most beloved dark corners
pleading to let in some of their light
