PEARL OCTOPUSS.Y SS26 SHOW ‘SOLEN’ IN COLLABORATION WITH MUNCH MUSEUM
About the brand

PEARL OCTOPUSS.Y is a bold and playful brand, fueled by a genuine love of creation. A core value of ours is versatility, with a focus on statement pieces that can be worn in multiple ways. Through this, we aim to inspire a more conscious approach to dressing up. Showing how styling and accessories can elevate any basic wardrobe. We encourage people to experiment with the clothes they already own. Highlighting how a signature piece of jewelry can play the main character in any outfit.

Their design process centers atmosphere and mood rather than constraints like seasons, gender or trends. We embrace our visual identity with its signature shapes and materials. Ensuring all new additions feel organic and true to our universe. Genuine, intuitive creation is our driving force. We often look to our previous work for inspiration, merging new impulses with our established aesthetic. We hope this approach can serve as a countermeasure to rapid trend cycles and the need for constant reinvention. Rather making pieces meant to be cherished and worn for a long time.

“SOLEN” show
The accessory brand Pearl Octopuss.y hosted it’s SS26 runway show ‘SOLEN’ on the first day of Oslo Runway, Monday August 25th. MUNCH Museum commissioned the show to bridge the fashion and art world, staging it in the exhibition room, Monumental. Edvard Munch’s iconic motif ‘Solen’ (The Sun) served as the inspiration for the collection, as well as the backdrop for the show.

The show challenged the traditional runway format, with a three-part choreography by Jonas Øren and a live, stripped-down performance by electronic musician Gundelach. The audience sat in a square formation, facing the wall with some of Munch’s most ambitious paintings. The musical performance occupied the middle of the room, remaining invisible during the show. The intention was to create an immersive space where the audience could experience the show in a personal, focused way, looking only at the artwork and the models.

This is Pearl Octopuss.y’s third and most ambitious show to date, both in terms of scope and looks. Drawing on themes present in both PEARL OCTOPUSS.Y’s and Edvard Munch’s universe, the collection explores repetition, contrast, contradictions and balance. “After our first visit, we immediately felt a pull towards the Monumental exhibition room, where Solen is displayed,” says founder and designer Cathrine Børter. “The sheer magnitude of the paintings made it feel like an almost sacred space. We really wanted to channel that in the show as well. There are a lot of themes present in Munch’s art that are key in our design process too. In everything we do, we aim for a certain tension and nerve, and this felt like the perfect space to create that ambience.”

Continuing from last year’s show Eclipse, this year’s collection features a combination of custom-made showpieces sewn in-house and upcycled second-hand or archive styles. Retaining signature elements such as fringes and rhinestone embellishments, the brand also introduced a range of new handcraft techniques, such as macramé, knit and tie-dye.
The brand is planning a re-see of the collection during September.
