Chloe Lula unveils Ego Sum — a deep, hypnotic exploration for Mord

Chloe Lula’s Ego Sum Marks a Bold Debut on Mord

Following a series of acclaimed EPs for Tresor and Blueprint, Berlin-based DJ and producer Chloe Lula returns with her new EP Ego Sum, released via powerhouse label Mord on November 28th, 2025. Issued in both 12’’ vinyl and digital formats, the record embodies Lula’s distinct duality—melding deep, meditative hypnotica with tactile, introspective peak-time energy. With this release, she continues to blur the lines between ambient reflection and club propulsion, affirming her reputation as one of techno’s most texturally innovative voices.

The Sound of Duality: Classical Roots Meet the Club in Ego Sum

Originally trained as a classical cellist, Chloe Lula channels her formal musical background into the sonic textures of Ego Sum. The EP bridges etheric ambience and propulsive four-to-the-floor rhythm, continuing the sound explorations she began with her drone album on Subtext. The result is an immersive, emotionally charged soundscape that fuses organic resonance with minimalist precision—an expression of both vulnerability and control that mirrors Lula’s evolving artistic identity.

Inside “Ego Sum”: A Self-Reflective Centerpiece of Chloe Lula’s Vision

At the heart of the EP lies the title track, “Ego Sum,” a hypnotic, slow-burning piece that captures the introspective essence of Lula’s production style. Layered textures, restrained tension, and emotional depth converge to form a meditative narrative that feels both personal and transcendent. The track pays homage to the minimalist pioneers who shaped her artistic outlook while solidifying her own place within Berlin’s modern techno continuum.

After leaving the conservatory at 18 to pursue electronic music, she moved to Berlin, where exposure to electroacoustic experimentation and minimalist techno shaped her distinct, textural sound. A resident DJ at Tresor, she has performed extensively across Asia, Europe, and the Americas. Beyond her studio work, Lula explores the social and political dimensions of club culture through her editorial and curatorial projects for Resident Advisor, contributing to the discourse at festivals including Atonal, Dekmantel, Nuits Sonores, Unsound, and Rewire.

What emotions or messages were you hoping to convey with “Ego Sum”?

The mood with this release is kind of a marriage of the rolling but tougher techno that I’m playing a lot in my sets with more abstract atmospheric soundscapes. (I’m not quite sure there was an emotion I was specifically trying to convey—it’s more about the sounds and textures I’m drawn to!)

What was the most challenging or exciting moment while creating this EP?

The most exciting moment for any release is when a track comes out so quickly that it’s almost like you didn’t write it yourself—there’s no deliberating, no second guessing. There were quite a few like that on this release, and I honestly think there’s almost no better feeling as a producer.
