Berlin Atonal and Unsound Announce “The Infinite Now” at Kraftwerk Berlin

Berlin Atonal and Unsound will present The Infinite Now, a 30-hour continuous programme taking place at Kraftwerk Berlin from the evening of Saturday 16 May to Sunday 17 May 2026. The project marks the first formal collaboration between the two festivals and will feature more than thirty artists across uninterrupted live performance, installation, and durational works.

The Infinite Now is structured as a continuous span moving through dusk, night, dawn and the following day. Audiences remain inside the venue throughout, with rest areas integrated into Kraftwerk Berlin’s architecture. A lower-level screening space hosts durational film and video works across the event.
The final wave of artists includes Caterina Barbieri, Kali Malone, Eiko Ishibashi & Jim O’Rourke presenting Kotoński Reworked, Adam Wiltzie with A Tired Reworking of Stars of the Lid For the Sleep Deprived, and Lois Patiño with Xabier Erkizia. Environmental installations are contributed by Brennan Wojtyla, Alex Reynolds & Robert M. Ochshorn, Fabien Giraud & Anne Stern, and Marcel Weber.
Previously announced artists include Marginal Consort, Romeo Castellucci with Scott Gibbons, Keiji Haino, Terrence Dixon, Actress, Brìghde Chaimbeul, Joanne Robertson, Joy Guidry, Marta Salogni, Paul Jebanasam, and Raphael Rogiński, among others. The programme spans experimental improvisation, electronic composition, orchestral works, and interdisciplinary performance.

The structure of The Infinite Now is designed around continuity and duration rather than fixed set times. The programme moves through a sequence of phases across 30 hours, with works distributed across night and day. Some performances take place during overnight hours, including Kali Malone presenting long-form installation-based works and Lois Patiño with Xabier Erkizia presenting a two-hour cinematic work designed for a reclining audience.

The transition into morning includes Adam Wiltzie’s reworking of Stars of the Lid material, followed by Eiko Ishibashi and Jim O’Rourke’s Kotoński Reworked, presented as an installation. The afternoon and evening include solo performances, ensemble works, and durational sets, including Marginal Consort’s extended collective improvisation and Terrence Dixon’s new work A Cosmic Display of Beauty, which closes the programme.

The event is preceded by three Prelude concerts at Kraftwerk Berlin on 10, 12, and 14 May. These feature Oneohtrix Point Never with Freeka Tet presenting Tranquilizer, Hania Rani performing as Chilling Bambino with support from Torus, and Sinfonietta Cracovia performing works by Gavin Bryars alongside the Berlin premiere of Aleksandra Słyż’s Pure Voices (2025).

Prelude 3 focuses on two major works by Gavin Bryars: The Sinking of the Titanic (1969) and Jesus’ Blood Never Failed Me Yet (1971). Both works are based on recorded material and gradual orchestral accumulation, originally released on Brian Eno’s Obscure Records. Aleksandra Słyż’s Pure Voices extends the programme into contemporary composition and is performed with Sinfonietta Cracovia.
Kraftwerk Berlin, the venue for all events, is a former coal-fired power station that operated until 1997 and remains largely unaltered. Its turbine hall and industrial architecture define the physical and acoustic environment of the programme.
The Infinite Now is the largest continuous collaboration to date between Berlin Atonal and Unsound. The next edition of Berlin Atonal will take place in August 2027, while Unsound returns to Poland in October 2026 with additional international events.
