New York-based artist Facets returns to Samo Records with Vicious Cycle, a four-track EP drawing on the sounds of early ’90s acid, techno and trance, alongside elements of Goa, EBM and electroclash. Set for release on October 16, the EP brings together a range of electronic influences, connecting the sounds of the era with a contemporary approach.
Premiering on KEYI, “It’s Not Over” explores a hypnotic, leftfield techno direction, adding a more off-centre dimension to the EP’s exploration of early ’90s electronic music.
The title track, “Vicious Cycle”, draws on trance and Goa influences, while “Distorter” moves between propulsive techno and electro. “Higher” brings the EP to a close with a dose of rave energy, rounding out the four-track release with a direct nod to the dancefloor.
Facets’ work spans dark synth, leftfield, techno, electro, new beat, EBM, acid, Italo disco and trance. His recent releases have appeared on labels including Optimo Music, KRI, Dischi Autunno, Ombra International and Skylax, building a catalogue that moves across different strands of underground electronic music.
Alongside his work as a producer and DJ, Facets is the founder of Samo Records, a label focused on the darker, moodier side of electronic music. Its catalogue includes releases from artists such as Anatolian Weapons, Local Suicide, Skelesys, DC Salas and Fabrizio Mammarella. Through the label, Facets continues to explore the sounds and club-oriented traditions that inform his own musical practice.
