Eco-Friendly Jewellry Collection by Jakub Bocianowski: Uniting Nature and Contemporary Design

Spread the love

A unique and sustainable combination of the richness of nature and contemporary design. The collection consists of three brooches and a necklace, made of innovative eggplant bioplastic and copper wire.

The jewelry collection not only stands out for its beauty but also carries a significant message about sustainability and environmental awareness.

Each piece is a testament to the possibilities of combining fashion with eco-friendly materials, encouraging a shift towards a more sustainable and responsible approach to jewelry.

As a young fashion designer how did you have chosen your path and why? What was your first contact with fashion design you ever remember?

My fascination with fashion began in childhood, sparked by my grandmother’s skill as a seamstress. I vividly remember observing her work with fabric, igniting my passion for design. By the tender age of 8 or 9, I found myself sketching my very first designs, while eagerly following the runway exploits of top models on television.

I sewed my first project before my studies in 2021 and it was a set consisting of a top and skirt made of a Reebok nylon jacket.

Who are the people who inspire you the most?

My biggest inspirations are Rick Owens and Vivienne Westwood, whom I greatly appreciate for their aesthetics, and expression in their works, and who have achieved success themselves without inheriting their brands from anyone.

How did you come up with the idea to implement the innovative bioplastic and aubergine material you made your jewelry from?

The task in the 3rd semester of my Jewelry Design studies was to design my own material. I started my exploration by looking for interesting natural objects. Like including algae obtained from the ocean in Iceland from my friend Oliwia and an eggplant. I chose eggplant because it best suited my aesthetics, which I associate its color with, which is the goth subculture. Bioplastic because I wanted it to be a relatively hard material. A material that would be easy to work with when it comes to jewelry. I also wanted to achieve the effect of delicate transparency in my objects.

What is the future of your project?

As for “Eggplant Essence”, I am considering further exploring my material and designing and making more objects in the future. Maybe even transferring it to clothing, which I also deal with in my studies. However, at the moment I am focusing on my current jewelry project, which is “Readymades Object”.
