CATALOGUE OF DISGUISE presents the film „ALOW“ directed by TANJA BOMBACH – a hallucinatory nightmare characterized by pervasive anxiety, loss of control and trepidation luring under the surface of three different escapist encounters. This underground tale explores feelings of restlessness and overstimulation in a fragmented way. It examines uncertainty as a collective state of mind, simultaneously haunted by notions of a lost past and anticipated future.

Purposefully SHOT and edited in long takes with its raw cinematic quality, the film intentionally creates a first-person view to emphasize a subjective experience of a dream-like sequence in contrast to the theatrical staging.

Wielding a multidisciplinary arsenal of performance, sound and fashion, ALOW combines and bends characteristics of genres between arthouse, fashion FILM, screen dance and slow horror.

The exclusive screening was hosted by CATALOGUE OF DISGUISE at TRAUMA BAR UND KINO, where the film was shot. During the event, there will be an immersive sound installation inspired by the film and after the screening a DJ-set by the sound artist SIMONE ANTONIONI, who created the music and sound of ALOW. The soundtrack will be released under the independent Berlin-based record label VERLAG later this year including a remix by ZIúR.

1. Tell us about your background. What’s your journey? How did you choose the inspiration to create CATALOGUE OF DISGUISE?

My background was fashion before I became an interdisciplinary director and started working within the fields of performance, music and film. I founded the transdisciplinary project series CATALOGUE OF DISGUISE in 2018 with the idea of dealing with topics of choreographed identities in times of the internet and escapism translated into performances, installations and videos.

我的背景是时尚，然后成为跨学科导演，开始在表演、音乐和电影领域工作。我在2018年创立了跨学科项目系列CATALOGUE OF DISGUISE，想法是处理互联网时代的编排身份和逃避现实的话题，并转化为表演、装置和视频。

2. How did you connect with the people that you worked on the project? What was essential to create such a interesting concept and output? 

In the beginning of each project I develop a concept and then start putting a team together to realize it. In case of ALOW, the concept was loosely inspired by the cyberpunk novel Vurt by Jeff Noons with its dark and nightmarish mood.  Essential for me is always to really connect all of these mediums with each other – like for example when I think of a performative sequence, I think immediately of an outfit and of the music. My approach is always to layer those elements and dissolving the boundaries between the different disciplines.

2. 你是如何与你在这个项目上工作的人联系的？什么是创造这样一个有趣的概念和产出的关键？ 

在每个项目的开始，我都会制定一个概念，然后开始组建一个团队来实现它。就《ALOW》而言，这个概念的灵感大致来自于Jeff Noons的赛博朋克小说《Vurt》，它具有黑暗和梦魇般的氛围。  对我来说，最重要的是真正把所有这些媒介相互联系起来–例如，当我想到一个表演序列时，我立即想到服装和音乐。我的方法总是将这些元素分层，并消解不同学科之间的界限。

3. Gear talk 😉 What’s your favourite equipment?

I love to work with a gimbal, because the camera can create its own choreography in connection to the movement of the performers in front of it.

4.  What’s your connection & friendship between CATALOGUE OF DISGUISE & TRAUMABARUNDKINO? 

CATALOGUE OF DISGUISE was shown in the last years at Trauma and the venue created the fertile ground for doing the project series, as it supported with the necessary facilities. In there I was able to experiment and explore different formats. But as CATALOGUE OF DISGUISE is its own entity, it will be also shown at different places in the future. 

4.你在《混乱之书》和TRAUMABARUNDKINO之间有什么联系和友谊？ 

CATALOGUE OF DISGUISE在过去几年中在Trauma展出，这个场地为做这个项目系列创造了肥沃的土壤，因为它有必要的设施支持。在那里我能够尝试和探索不同的形式。但由于《混乱的目录》是它自己的实体，它也将在未来的不同地方展出。

5. Plans for future? What are you up for upcoming year?

Later this year the soundtrack of ALOW will be released under the independent Berlin-based record label VERLAG.And besides planning on further projects, some other exciting things are coming up – so definitely keep an eye out for more to come.
