Berlin-based Tresor Records has announced the highly anticipated reissue of Dark Territory, the debut album from Detroit techno pioneers Scan 7.
Originally released in 1996, this iconic LP comes remastered from the original DAT tapes, with acclaimed engineer Mike Grinser bringing new life to a record that stands as a cornerstone of techno history.
Scan 7, part of the legendary Underground Resistance collective and led by the enigmatic Trackmaster Lou, showcases their mastery of minimalistic machine funk and their unique ability to build tension and groove. They vividly display this skill throughout Dark Territory, with standout tracks like the hypnotic “Unusual Channel,” mixed by Detroit techno maestro Blake Baxter, and the hard-hitting “VII.”
Tresor’s reissue features a vinyl repress with updated artwork, staying true to the album’s futuristic essence. In a remarkable milestone, Dark Territory is also being made available digitally for the first time, ensuring a new generation of listeners can experience its enduring vitality.

Formed in Detroit during the late 1980s, SCAN 7 is an ever-evolving electronic music collective led by founding member Track Masta Lou.
Known for their masked lineup and dynamic sound, they seamlessly blend Detroit techno with electro, house, and other sub-genres. Their debut live performance at the inaugural Detroit Electronic Music Festival in 2000 cemented their status as a top-tier live act. Over the years, SCAN 7 has released music on iconic labels like Underground Resistance, Tresor, and KMS, with hits such as “You Have The Right” and “The Resistance.” Most recently, they dropped The Hallowed Ground E.P. on their own SCAN Records label.
