Get ready for this amazing release !
Hey, how’s it going guys? How does the end of the year look for you?
The Hacker: I’m fine, the end of 2024 is really nice so far. I just came back from the US where I played in Detroit and New York , and my next gig is in Milano. I’m working also on new music and remixes, so it’s quite busy, but it’s cool and exciting.
E-bony: I’m doing great. The end of 2024 going well with several exciting gigs and fresh music releases on the horizon. It’s a rewarding way to wrap up the year, and I’m looking forward to what’s next.
E-bony, can you tell us about the inspiration behind the Machine Code EP ?
E-bony: The Machine Code EP draws its inspiration from the intersection of human imperfection and mechanical precision. I’ve always been fascinated by how machines, despite their precision, are ultimately designed by flawed beings, and how that tension creates a kind of beauty. The name ‘Machine Code’ also reflects the idea of translating raw energy and emotion into structured, coded form, much like how music transforms abstract feelings into sound. It’s about bridging the gap between the organic and the synthetic, and I think that tension comes through in the music itself.
Could you share more about your relationship with the Dame-Music label and how it started?
E-bony: My relationship with Dame-Music goes back to before I even started producing myself. I was first exposed to the label’s releases during a period when I was diving deep into discovering new music, and its sound immediately resonated with me. The combination of timeless acid releases and modern sound with always high energy and a clear vision made a big impression and, in a way, influenced my early steps as a producer.
When I began creating my own tracks, Dame-Music was one of those labels I always aspired to work with. Over time, as my sound developed, I felt ready to reach out Bloody Mary, and I was thrilled when the connection was established. Mary isn’t just an exceptional musician and DJ, she’s also an incredible person. From the very beginning, she’s been approachable and open, always willing to answer questions and chat about music and life. I deeply appreciate her support and the trust she’s shown in me.
This EP features a remix of “System Error,” which we’re excited to premiere. How did the collaboration come about? Could you both share your individual perspectives on the process, and how the remix ultimately came together?
The Hacker: I knew the music from E-bony already, I played a lot of his tracks in my DJ sets. When Bloody Mary asked me for a remix, I said yes immediately. The original was very electro/techno so I decided to take it in another direction, with a kind of dark/rave atmosphere . I have to say that I’m really happy with this remix.
E-bony: The story behind System Error’s remix is actually a fun one. Both Mary and I had The Hacker at the top of our wish list before we even discussed ideas for remixes. When Mary asked me who I had in mind, I said that my first wish was The Hacker, and she told me she had already reached out to him. It felt like one of those moments of perfect alignment where we were both on the same wavelength.
The Hacker’s take on the track is phenomenal, he managed to keep the raw energy of the original while adding his own unmistakable touch. It gives it this dark, hypnotic vibe. It’s always inspiring to hear how another artist reinterprets your work, and his remix feels like a perfect extension of the EP’s concept.
Electro has always had a strong connection to futuristic and mechanical aesthetics. How do you both approach translating this into sound, and what are some of the challenges or rewards you experience with this genre?
The Hacker: I use analog synths to create this kind of music, so in a way, it’s funny to use old synths to make future-inspired music. When you do this kind of music, you know that there will be ups and downs in terms of popularity. However, it’s a genre that never disappears, it’s here since day one and will remain forever.
E-bony: Electro has this timeless core, I’m always looking for ways to refresh it while using analog and digital synths. I try blending that classic, raw energy with something new whether it’s an unusual melodic twist, a surprising texture, or a shift in dynamics. The challenge is keeping it grounded in the genre while still making it feel new. When it works, it’s incredibly rewarding. For me, it’s all about honouring the roots of electro while pushing it into unexplored territories.
Hacker, when you’re approached to remix a track, how do you decide whether to stay close to the original or take it in a completely different direction? What are your personal experiences?
The Hacker: When I do a remix most of the time I stay close to the original, but I try to give it my personal “touch”, with my old synths and TR-808 !
