Ecocycle: A Celebration of Art, Ecology, and Cultural Synergy

KORNFELD Galerie Berlin, in collaboration with the Korean gallery SEOJUNG ART, is proud to present Ecocycle, a group exhibition running from January 24 to February 22, 2025.

The exhibition features works by seven artists from Germany, China, and Korea, exploring themes of ecology, humanity, and cultural connections.

Ecocycle brings together contrasting elements such as light and darkness, city and nature, water and earth, and rationality and irrationality.

A Cyclical Exploration of Art and Ecology

The exhibition title, Ecocycle, merges “eco” (ecology) with “cycle,” reflecting not only environmental and biological processes but also the cyclical nature of human needs and cultural exchange. From traditional Korean techniques to contemporary Western styles, the artists employ diverse mediums and perspectives to reimagine our shared world.

Supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the Korea Arts Management ServiceEcocycle reinforces KORNFELD and SEOJUNG ART’s commitment to fostering intercultural dialogue and highlighting the universal language of art.

Meet the Artists

The exhibition features an impressive roster of talent:

  • Jungwon Phee (1993): is a Korean artist whose work blends traditional and modern techniques. His vibrant, surreal depictions of nature explore themes like identity, solitude, and humanity’s relationship with the environment.
  • Gee Song (1980) creates minimalist and poetic works that invite reflection on time and transience. Her meditative installations encourage viewers to engage with the present moment through their contemplative beauty.
  • Chounhwan Lee (1956): Inspired by nature, Lee’s abstract paintings evoke tranquility and philosophical reflection through Korean hues and natural motifs.
  • Yeonhwa Hur (1988) explores water’s fluidity through sculpture, silkscreen, and painting. She combines unrelated objects to tell stories, creating connections that transcend compartmentalized spaces.
  • Nanan Kang (1979) focuses on communal experiences and shared meanings in her art. Her Long Long Time Flower Project symbolizes public well-being and creates new meanings as her paper flowers change locations.
  • Jay Gard (1984) is a German artist known for vibrant geometric sculptures. His works play with symmetry, perspective, and structure, blurring the lines between art, design, and architecture.
  • Rao Fu (1978), born in China and based in Germany, combines traditional Chinese art and Western techniques. His paintings explore identity, spirituality, and the human experience, blending abstract and narrative elements.
