On Thursday 11.09.25 Sven Marquardt’s exhibition – of his project Disturbing Beauty launches at Haus Des Visionäre, Berlin.
Haus Des Visionäre, Eichenstraße 4A, 12435 Berlin. From 8h30pm until dawn.
For decades his photography has captured the visual language of a Berlin generation that defined itself between nightlife, art and fashion. But with this project as well his work captures extraordinary and rare moments of intimacy. And shows a raw but yet intimate version of the people being photographed. It reveals a certain element of fragility but also presents itself as bold and visionary.
With his project disturbing beauty, Marquardt brings back a project previously presented in New York, Montreal, Tonto, Mexico City and Sofia. But now is here, in Berlin. Conceived as an atmospheric and a visual distillation of 25 years of analog photography. The exhibition is less of a traditional presentation than a spatial and sensory experience. It’s expansive showing an attitude of life that’s linked to the city Berlin itself. At Haus Des Visionäre, an icon of Berlin’s industrial culture and momental force unfold for one night only. From 8h30 pm until dawn (around 5am – entry is 5€)
Four large scale black and white portraits flanked by towering video installations are installed at the center of the hall. Inviting viewing from all sides. Accompanied by live piano music, a cosmos emerges between beauty and disquiet. Between intimacy and stark intimacy. For this project Marquardt collaborates with Tilius Sodeka (sound and motion design) and Tavy Hornbrook (visual art). Providing a visionary exhibition for all to come and experience.
Rooted in his proximity in club culture, fashion and art Marquardt’s images function both as chronicle and as staging. As portrait and as condensation. Disturbing Beauty reveals how his photography transcends the documentary – becoming mirrors of a sensibility inseparably bound to Berlin itself.
