Set for release on Iptamenos Discos, Local Suicide’s upcoming Houdini EP marks the duo’s darkest and heaviest exploration of their technodisco universe to date. Among the record’s defining moments is one of its key reworks, “Obsessions (David Carretta Remix),” which we are proud to premiere exclusively.
The original Obsessions moves between darkwave and techno, driven by a brutal bassline, analog synths, and stark vocal mantras. The repeated line “Obsessions, they come and go” functions like a hypnotic spell, capturing the track’s claustrophobic pull and making it one of the EP’s most tightly wound moments.
For the remix, David Carretta takes these intense elements and reshapes them through his own lens. His version maintains the original’s shadowed energy while pushing the track toward clearer electronic rhythms and melodies, creating a contrasting yet complementary force within the EP. The result is a rework that illuminates the darkness of the Houdini EP from a new angle and stands out as a pivotal moment in the record’s overall flow.
The Houdini EP was born during countless late-night studio sessions in Berlin with long-term collaborator Skelesys. This creative period also produced “Moustache,” the Surface of the Sun EP, and “Faster Faster” from Curses’ Next Wave Acid Punx compilation. As a result, the EP carries the density and intensity of that time, with three original tracks and two reworks expanding its shadowed atmosphere in distinct ways.

Carretta’s remix of “Obsessions” serves as a central balancing point in that structure. By redirecting the original track’s intensity, he broadens the EP’s narrative and highlights a different facet of Local Suicide’s tension-driven sound.
Local Suicide’s Houdini EP will be released on November 21st, 2025, as a limited 12” vinyl and digitally via Iptamenos Discos.

We spoke with David Carretta to ask him a few questions about the remix.
What excited you most about remixing Local Suicide’s “Obsessions”?
In fact, Last year Dina and Max had remixed Lennart on my label Space Factory and we decide together to do a remix exchange. I like to remix original tracks with vocal and that was the case with both voices of Dina and Max. They are very active on the scene with their label Iptanemos and they have also different projects and I like that.
When crafting this remix, did you imagine a specific type of dancefloor or crowd?
Not really, I always tried to keep and improve my own style with the same old synthesizers since 30 years, like a man with his guitar looking for taking instrument’s quintessence.
