DANCÆ presents dance performance piece ‘Modalities of Me’ at Monopol Berlin

DANCÆ, returns to Monopol –  the former distillery turned cultural venue in northern Berlin – for a final run of Modalities of Me from March 20-29, presenting an extended and reworked version of the piece.
The evening opens with a solo by Berlin-based dancer and choreographer Tess Voelker. In this autobiographical performance, she explores memory and presence through minimal movement. The second act presents Modalities of Me, performed by Ballet Sur_real, the official ensemble of DANCÆ. Choreographed by Soraya Schulthess, the work features five figures that embody different states of being: power, chaos, duplicity, fragility, and ferality. Instead of following a linear narrative, the dancers interact with each other, the architecture, and a large-scale installation by Swiss visual collective Encor Studio.
The performance takes place inside a life-size mixed-media environment made of glass, sunlight, and electrochromic film. The installation shifts with changing light, making choreography and space inseparable.
The soundtrack features hypnotic techno by Berlin-based artist ogtrues, with additional musical direction by DJ VINVAR, co-founder of the queer collective fluid.vision. Their sound bridges club and stage, creating an immersive atmosphere that drives the choreography.
