Petrichor: The Weather Event of BFW SS27

With her new Spring/Summer 2027 collection, Petrichor, Rebekka Ruétz finally brings rain to dry earth.

Density and Realease

Before any storm or rain, heat lingers beneath the sky and settles on the skin. The air becomes heavier to breathe, while the colours suddenly begin to change, as if the world were holding its last breath before the storm.

Then comes the breakthrough. Dark clouds finally gather, lightning breaks across the sky, and the heavy rain begins. Water hits the dry earth and releases the scent that gives the collection its title:

“Damp earth, dust, warm stones, a trace of sun in the air.”

Bridging tension with relief, and pressure with emotional release, Rebekka Ruétz creates a collection inspired by this very moment.

The collection combined minimalist avant-garde tailoring with sculptural silhouettes, oversized jackets and structured Apple Skin material. Lace, mesh and transparent layers softened the looks, creating a contrast between strength and delicacy. Swarovski crystals, pearls and statement jewellery reflected themes of water and light, while exclusive textiles and deadstock fabrics reinforced the collection’s sustainable and contemporary vision.

First Rain

The color palette stays accurately close to the elements: earth, air and weather. How they describe in a deeper meaning to detail, is very interesting to see:

“With supporting midnight black, chalk white, smoky white, pearl beige, sandstone, clay ochre and a subdued moss green form the base”.

While gold and silver appeal as delicate reflections that follows the first rain.

What happens after the rain?

The earth and the mind become clearer, cooler and filled with light.

Hair and make-up artist Sam Hill, in collaboration with Rebekka Ruétz, creates a beauty language that unfolds the central message of Petrichor through moisture, light and movement, reflecting the way rain transforms the earth after the first rainfall. Swarovski crystals capture those flashes of light, interpreting the delicate appearance of morning dew.

“I love that moment when a summer
storm rolls in and suddenly everything shifts. The air is electric, the thunder crashes like a mountain
collapsing, the lightning flashes,
and then the rain comes.
To me, it feels deeply alive, almost
ecstatic, and at the same time it
brings enormous relief.”

As mentioned previously, Petrichor, in collaboration with Swarovski, explores layers of light and surface. The crystal elements appear throughout the collection as carefully placed accents, reflecting water and the changing textures left behind after the rain. They bring sharpness and shine to fabric, skin and silhouette.

After the Rain

Rebekka works in a contemporary avant-garde shaped by cut, material and the body. Her silhouettes exactly combines features like fabric and the form. The materials lies to soft angles and textures, and lines fall naturally on the body.

Above all, the sustainability is the main foundation of the brand. It focuses on upcycled, recycled and deadstock materials complemented by innovative fabrics, natural materials and artisanal collaborations.

Like the scent of rain lingering after the storm, Petrichor reminds us that moments of tension often give way to clarity, renewal and new beginnings.
