Tell us about yourself. Where do you come from and how did that impact your path? How did you get into music production? Was it something you always wanted to do? Did you try other things before?
Hi and thank you for having me! I’m from a town called Haddington, just outside of Edinburgh. Growing up, it wasn’t really easy as there wasn’t any electronic scene in the town, so I didn’t really discover house and techno until I was living in Edinburgh. My interest then grew after moving to Oslo in 2013, where I started organising events and parties .
I have always had an interest in music, and both my brothers played instruments growing up, and it was nice to be able to try so many different things before I stuck with electronic production.
Your music has been released on many renovated labels like Super Sound Tool, Krill Music, Hayes Collective, ARTS, Planet Rhythm and Liberta. Which of your recent projects resonates the most with your currently released track? We are happy to premiere one of the tracks Duncan Macdonald – Is The Bottom Half Of Me On Fire?
As far as the sound of my previous releases go, I’d say this newest release on LowEnd is a bit different, as it’s rougher. I wanted to go for a more distorted and intense sound than my usual style, which tends to be quite clean in the mixdown. The first two tracks on the EP, one of which you’ve premiered here, are especially quite different both arrangement and style wise. I wanted to produce some gritty, loopy tracks and I think I succeeded with the A1 and A2.

You are just working together with JohannesK on LowEnd Records – new Berlin based label and you already have a third release coming out soon on 02.12.22. How would you describe your signature sound of your label? How does the connection with JohannesK evolved into working together?
Meeting Johannes was one of those lucky coincidences. I was looking for a room in Berlin and was offered one by our mutual friend David, and Johannes was the other flatmate! We both realised quickly that we were producing in unique but similar enough styles to run a label together and slowly but surely LowEnd became a reality.
One of the things I really like about the label is there is still that room for me and Johannes to express ourselves creatively but overall I’d say the sound is focused on hypnotic and trippy techno.
Who are your favourite musicians so far you gain inspiration from? What do you think is essential for the best tracks in your opinion? Who would you imagine to work with in the future and who would perfectly resonate with LowEnd Records ?
I always find picking my favourite artist quite difficult, but I’d say it has to be a tie for me between Mike Parker and Regis. Mike Parker’s sound design is just unparalleled, and Regis’s ability to turn a simple loop into untouchable bangers time after time really just amazes me.
It’s probably a fair bog standard answer but I think a solid groove and low end are essential for any track, and if it’s done right even just that will get people going.
There are so many people I’d love to work with for LowEnd, and we do have a really exciting remix package for the Apples EP in the works, but for me, if I had to pick 4 dream artists for a VA I’d say: Nørbak, The Lady Machine, Reeko and Adiel. Thanks, Duncan
