Fashion is evolving beyond just the catwalk and clothes, slowly turning into a full sensory experience. A striking recent example is the immersive digital visuals at Balenciaga’s Fall 2021 collection Afterworld: The Age of Tomorrow. Avenir didn’t turn to technology but rather embraced the raw energy of their urban setting. Their SS25 collection, COMMUTE, not only showcased their latest designs but also showed us their vision of the commuter of tomorrow. The runway, cleverly situated between the towering buildings of Potsdamer Platz, used Berlin’s lively soundscape as its backdrop. The honking of bus drivers, police sirens, and screeching brakes all added to the atmosphere of the show.
We see pastels in lavender, mint and cream. The looks seem effortlessly put together, but the commuter of tomorrow has an eye for detail. They know how to combine comfort and functionality with contemporary style.

With COMMUTE, founder Sophie Claussen painted a portrait of the modern commuter of tomorrow. Each model represented a diverse spectrum of travelers. After all, every commuter has their unique daily rituals: from listening to a carefully curated playlist on their way to uni to enjoying a quiet cigar during their walk to the office. We even caught a glimpse of that one rare soul radiating positivity and warmth to all they encounter. Couldn’t be me, unfortunately.
