The new multi-sensory production reveals apertures onto deeply hidden parts of the self within an increasingly complex world.
Modalities of Me is a multi-sensory dance performance that explores how modern love is shaped. Often distorted by the environments. We move through: digital spaces, club culture, curated identities, and hyper-capitalist frameworks. Examining how desire shifts under pressure. How we perform it, commodify it, consume it, and sometimes destroy it. The work invites audiences to reflect on intimacy as something both fragile and volatile in today’s world.

Ballet Sur_real
Baller. Sur_real, co-created by Soraya Schulthess and Renato De Leon in 2023, is the official ballet ensemble of DANCÆ. The ensemble’s work combines classical ballet with electronic music, integrating immersive installations and innovative technologies into its choreographic language. Their creations draw on contemporary life while delving into the deeper psychological motives that drive human behavior.
Ballet Sur_real, the signature dance ensemble of the international production company DANCÆ presents Modalities of Me, a new work premiering at Berlin’s Monopol. The former distillery now turned cultural venue in northern Berlin. The piece unfolds around five figures who do not appear as traditional characters. As a embodiments of different states of being: power, chaos, duplicity, fragility, and ferality. Rather than following a linear storyline, these figures interact with one another, with the installation, and with the surrounding architecture. The performance takes place within a life-size environment created by Swiss-based visual collective Encor Studio, making choreography and installation inseparable.

Tess Voelker
Yes Voelker is a dancer and choreographer who began her professional career with Ballet Dortmund. Before joining the prestigious Netherlands Dance Theatre in 2020. As a choreographer, she created Clouds Inside for the Paris Opera Ballet (2020) and contributed to films.dance. A collaborative project by Jacob Jonas set for release in fall 2021. For DANCÆ x Encor Studio, Tess will be presenting a new solo creation.

The performance begins with a solo by Tess Voelker, former member of Nederlands Dans Theater. Whose piece functions as a kind of autobiography – an exploration of presence and personal memory expressed through respecting “the most” of what is “the least.”
Encor Studio
Encor Studio, founded in 2016 by Swiss artists Mirko Eremita, David Houncheringer, Manuel Oberholzer, and Valerio Spoletini, merges technology with analog materials to create immersive works where light, sound, and space take center stage. Through kinetic sculptures, installations, and sound visualization, they distort perception and open new perspectives on the relationship between humans and their environment. Recently, the studio has embraced a reductionist approach, using local materials and emphasizing energy efficiency as a statement against homogeneity.

Encor Studio’s window installation is a 25 x 30 meters mixed-media work of glass, sunlight, and electrochromic films, reflecting the systems that shape and influence our environment, evolving in real time with the atmosphere. Encor stands out for its integration of physical materials and responsive technology, crafting site-specific works that interact with natural light and changing conditions to alter how space is seen and felt. As the performance unfolds, the dancers mirror the shifting dynamics of today’s social and emotional landscapes.
DANCÆ

DANCÆ, founded by Soraya Schulthess, is an interdisciplinary production company that curates collaborations across dance, visual art, music, fashion, and new media. With a mission to create immersive, concept-driven experiences, DANCÆ stages performances that are site-specific and deeply responsive to architecture, atmosphere, and the artworks they engage with.
The work is choreographed by Soraya Schulthess, founder of DANCÆ, and co-director Renato De Leon, who together co-created the official ensemble Ballet Sur_real. Performed to electronic music and accompanied by site-specific light and spatial design, it draws audiences into an immersive environment where dance, installation, and sound create a unique performance experience.

The music for Ballet Sur_real was carefully selected by Soraya Schulthess and Renato De Leon (DANCÆ). Featuring producers in the electronic music scene. The music was primarily mixed by Berlin-based artist ogtrues. Whose hypnotic techno soundscapes layered with raw textures and emotional depth, form the backbone of the performance. His sonic language sets the tone for the immersive journey, resonating with the piece’s exploration of intimacy, power, and volatility. The music in the ballet was also partially mixed by VINVAR. Georgian DJ and co-founder of the queer collective fluid.vision. Who assisted in shaping and refining the musical flow to align with the choreography and spatial installation. Together, these collaborations create a sound that not only drives the choreography. Intertwines concert, club, and stage, embodying the core essence of DANCÆ’s vision also.
