JakoJako, Detect Ensemble and Ruumbln21 Present Zeitkreis: A 180-Minute Cycle of Sound and Movement in Berlin

Premiering at Zenner, the interdisciplinary work fuses live electronics, chamber music and contemporary dance

A major interdisciplinary performance titled Zeitkreis will premiere on 7 May 2026 at Zenner in Berlin, bringing together electronic music, experimental chamber composition, and contemporary dance into a single continuous 180-minute experience.

At the core of the project is Berlin-based modular synthesist JakoJako, whose live electronic language anchors the work’s evolving sonic structure. Known for her precision-driven modular performances, she shapes the piece as a continuous flow rather than a set of discrete compositions.

She is joined by Detect Ensemble, an ensemble working at the intersection of contemporary classical music, jazz improvisation, and electronic transformation. Their instrumentation spans viola, guitar, trombone, bass, percussion, and electronics and functions as a flexible system where acoustic sound is continuously reshaped in real time.

Movement and choreography are provided by Berlin-based company Ruumbln21, led by choreographer Rubén Nsue. Their approach treats dance not as interpretation of music but as an equal structural voice within the performance, forming parallel layers of meaning alongside sound.

Zeitkreis unfolds as a single arc structured in three conceptual phases: repetition, rupture, and embodied awareness. Rather than functioning as separate segments, these stages continuously overlap, creating a shifting perceptual cycle that resists traditional narrative breaks. The result is a 180-minute environment in which time, sound, and physical presence constantly reconfigure each other.

The evening opens with a two-hour DJ set by Irakli, designed as an atmospheric transition into deep listening, preparing the audience for the sustained intensity of the main performance. The acoustics of Zenner’s historic GDR-era interior play a key role in shaping the immersive sound field, amplifying the interplay between live instruments, synthesis, and movement.

Positioned at the intersection of experimental music and contemporary performance practice, Zeitkreis reflects a growing trend in Berlin’s avant-garde scene toward long-form, hybrid works that dissolve boundaries between disciplines.
