Known for blending minimal techno, house, and breakbeat influences with cinematic sound design, Icey Planet brings a distinctly organic layer into the electronic club framework through her signature use of the handpan, which she treats not as an accent but as a structural voice within her sets. For this special Else edition, she will present her first hybrid live DJ set in Berlin, combining DJing with real-time handpan improvisation and her latest production work.
Set within the unique atmosphere of Else, a venue known for its open-air riverside energy as well as its powerful indoor club space, this performance marks a new step in her artistic direction. Icey Planet reflects on her journey from Shanghai to Los Angeles, Athens, and Berlin, and how these contrasting environments have shaped her understanding of time, rhythm, and emotional storytelling in electronic music.

As KEYI Magazine continues to explore the intersection of music, art, and experiential culture, Icey Planet’s upcoming performance stands as a forward-looking statement on how club music can evolve into a fluid, multi-sensory narrative space.
How are you and could you introduce yourself ?
Hi, my name is Icey, I create emotional electronic music that blends handpan, minimal grooves, hypnotic rhythms, and organic textures.
Why the handpan?
Handpan has been an integral part of my musical journey since day one.
For me, the handpan feels deeply human inside electronic music. It introduces breath and imperfection, reconnects rhythm with touch, and it represents organic consciousness within digital environments.
There still hasn’t been much integration of this instrument into the club scene, and I want to be one of the first artists pushing that boundary further — merging organic instrumentation with hypnotic club music in a more immersive and emotional way.

You are part of our event 28 May in Else ? How are the preparations ?
This will be my hybrid live DJ set debut in Berlin, so I’m very excited about it.
I’ve been preparing some of my latest productions, which fuse minimal grooves, industrial textures, and handpan rhythms.
During the two-hour set, I’ll be performing on my new electric handpan live, so the performance will move between DJing and live instrumentation.
Berlin or Shanghai energy?
I think both cities shaped me deeply in very different ways.
Shanghai gave me a sense of futurism, intensity, and fast-pace, while Berlin taught me more about depth, patience, hypnosis, and long-form musical storytelling.
A lot of my artistic identity comes from the tension between those two energies.

What makes a set unforgettable?
An unforgettable set should feel alive and inevitable — like it could not have gone any other way.
It should contain a theme, or at least several emotional memories that stay with people afterwards.
Club music or emotional storytelling?
My direction goes beyond purely functional dance music. I try to make sure every sound selection has a clear intention and purpose, that serves a message that reflects how I think.
I approach a DJ set as more than just track selection — it should contain psychological movement and a larger narrative arc. Every decision should contribute to the storytelling.
I always try to plant an emotional anchor somewhere in the set that reflects my inner state and creates a deeper connection with the audience.
