Originally written as a poem, Gone explores heartbreak and the search for love across dancefloors, leather bars, and retro gym classes. It reflects Cormac’s continued mission with Polari Records: celebrating and preserving queer culture through sound and art.

We caught up with Cormac to talk about the new track and the concept behind the EP.

Hi Cormac! We’re excited to feature you in our magazine. Could you start by introducing yourself to our readers?

Thanks! I’m Cormac, DJ, music producer, and podcast host.(Queerly Beloved) I also run a record label called Polari. I’m also a dreamer, and an animal lover.

“Gone” started as a poem. How did it become a track for the dancefloor?

Most of my music begins with words, I write nearly every day. When I wrote Gone, I wasn’t fully sure what I was expressing at the time, but reading it back, it’s clearly about hope.

Holding onto certainty isn’t always easy, for me, it’s something I have to consciously choose. I have to decide to focus on the good, to trust. As queer people, especially in recent years, it’s natural to question whether what we’ve built might be taken from us.

But I don’t believe that’s our fate. This is just a moment in time. Yes, there’s work ahead, but it will pass.
And when I’m feeling drained or uncertain, I want to love, to dance, to fuck—that’s how I reclaim joy. That feeling is at the heart of the track.

What did working with Chinaski mean to you, and how does this EP reflect your vision for Polari Records?

Working with Chinaski on this EP was a joy, he’s a good friend and we’re very aligned musically. From the beginning, we set out to make an Italo pop anthem, inspired by our shared love of Cay Hume and that contrast of joyful music and somewhat lamenting lyrics. It’s a  juxtaposition that we love.

He sent over some early sketches, and I began adapting my poems into tighter, lyrical ideas. As with any creative process, the final product always takes its own shape—it’s rarely exactly what you pictured, but ideally, it turns out even better.

Polari is built on the idea of quality and freedom, it’s a space where a homage pop track sits just as comfortably as a cinematic, moody piece , diso or techno. All music as long as it’s great. . It’s about expression without boundaries, and this EP fits that ethos perfectly.
