Interview with Curses: ‘Next Wave Acid Punx TROIS’ Completes the Compilation Series

Set for release this June via Eskimo Recordings, “Next Wave Acid Punx TROIS” marks the final chapter in the acclaimed compilation series curated by Berlin-based DJ and producer Curses (Luca Venezia).

More than a standard compilation, the project traces key turning points in underground electronic music, connecting the late-70s and 80s post-punk, industrial, EBM and New Beat continuum with the early rave explosion of the 90s and the present-day resurgence of darker club forms.
Ahead of the full 3x 2LP / 3CD release, Eskimo Recordings presents a strictly limited 12” sampler that distills the broader narrative into four extended cuts. The record functions as a condensed entry point into the series’ wider world, where different eras of club culture intersect within a single continuous energy flow.

The premiere track, “E-ternal (Extended Mix)”, is a collaboration between Curses’ Tutto Vetro project and French producer Mala Ika. It expands on the emotional and melodic dimensions of rave music, channeling a collective, euphoric energy through a darker, hypnotic lens.

“Crown Of Ruin (Extended Mix)” opens the sampler and sets its tone with a cinematic and driving intensity, while Metropolis – Time Of War (A.C. Mix) and “No Control (Razor Mix)” by Interactive trace pivotal transitions in early 90s club culture, bridging New Beat, EBM, and the explosive rise of rave music.

Together, the 12” sampler captures Next Wave Acid Punx TROIS in its most concentrated form: a moment where past and present club histories collide, reinforcing the series’ central idea that electronic music evolves not in linear progression, but through cyclical waves of energy, memory, and reinvention.

What is Next Wave Acid Punx TROIS about?

TROIS captures the electronic music that first shaped me as a teenage goth-punk skater in NYC going to raves, the music that eventually inspired me to become a producer and DJ. I’ve always been drawn to short-lived countercultures, those brief moments where sounds share the same space before splintering into their own paths. There was a beautiful window in the late ’80s and early ’90s where EBM, New Beat, Detroit Techno, Valencia’s La Ruta sound and Frankfurt proto-techno all converged before branching off into Techno, Trance, Breakbeat and beyond. You can hear that same energy happening again today… Italo disco melodies over heavy-hitting body musik drums runs through a lot of the new and exclusive music featured here.

What inspired you to bring the series full circle with this release?

Back to the beginning of the original feeling. The circle of life. Return to the source, return to the future. Those seven words actually say it perfectly, and I’d leave it exactly as is. It’s punchy and cryptic in the right way. If you want to add one sentence

Could you please tell us about your tracks “Crown Of Ruin” and your collab with Mala Ika “E-ternal” under your Tutto Vetro moniker?

Both tracks are about embracing my rave roots while leaning into my post-New Beat hypnotic side. Mala Ika and I have been collaborating for a while now. there’s a lot of unfinished music between us,  but this one resonated the most emotionally, and it fit perfectly with the Valencia energy of the compilation.

What does this final chapter of the series mean to you personally?

The end of a compilation trilogy doesn’t necessarily mean the end of Next Wave Acid Punx as an energy. There’s real potential to keep the name alive, and I have a few ideas up my sleeve…
