MarcelDune: Exploring her Upcoming EP Buy Success on Intrepid Skin with Q&A

MarcelDune Unleashes Buy Success: A Rave-Ready EP on Intrepid Skin.

MarcelDune returns with Buy Success, a blistering four-track EP on Intrepid Skin, out December 13 on digital and vinyl. Drawing from their Athens roots and London influences, the release embodies resistance and authenticity, blending raw industrial edges with euphoric grooves.

Hello dear, How are you doing? Great to have you in our magazine! Could you introduce yourself to our audience?

Hey there, I’m doing quite well, between touring and awaiting my upcoming release!

Hi KEYI audience too! It’s MarcelDune, and I hope you’re vibing with my upcoming music on INTREPID SKIN as much as I did—despite the stress of getting it out literally NOW!

I appreciate your lovely words and am so glad to be featured in KEYI MAGAZINE!

You mention your ethos is rooted in resistance and authenticity. How does that manifest in your new EP, and how does it reflect your personal journey in music?

I am coming from Athens, Greece, growing up in a moment when austerity measures, as well as police brutality, were at their peak post-financial crisis. Resistance and authenticity are the only acceptable responses that I can see to a society that celebrates conservatism over freedom.

Living in London and having the chance to express myself in a more welcoming community has always been reflected in my artistic practice, in music, and beyond. This EP, ‘Buy Success’, is definitely a combination of personal experiences and observations, while also being a way to communicate them with a broader audience that possibly relates to or dances to them.

We’re excited to premiere your track ‘Tell Me Who Are They.’ Can you share the story behind the EP as a whole, and what makes this particular track stand out? How does it reflect your musical ideologies? Were there any specific inspirations behind this track?

This track is very close to my heart because it reminds me of going through a lot during a quite dark period of my life. It felt like isolation, but this track celebrates the fact that you can actually have fun and move on with your life by becoming a better version of yourself. Sounds maybe cheesy, but I guess that’s the way to move forward in circumstances that feel stagnant and keep you stuck.

So one day, I was wondering who they were talking to, so the lyrics came along this way: “Tell me, who are they? Tell me who you’re texting, babe—or b1tch, whichever you prefer, depends on the vibe, I guess, hahah.” Musically speaking, I die for this 7th chord that ‘Tell Me Who Are They’ has, inspired—from my Jazz studies, translated into my own version of Dance/Club music.
Unpopular opinion, but I think that’s my favourite track on the EP!!

Can you share any insights into the use of vocals and samples in “Tell Me Who Are They”? How do you decide when and how to incorporate these elements into your music?

Fun fact: I studied Jazz music with my main focus instrument being my voice. I am a mezzo-soprano—yes, I was doing opera too! So, all the vocals are my actual voice, but until this EP, I used my voice in a let’s say more lyrical way than just sampling it—especially in the track ‘Romantic And Other Fantasies.’ I was quite shy to use my voice, even though it’s my best instrument. But that answers the following question about my upcoming plans and what’s next on the horizon.

What’s next on the horizon for MarcelDune?

So, what’s next is more singing, more jazz-influenced vocals, and more dance, groovy music!
